Welder Beats Wife To Death For Alleged Adultery (Photo)

An indigene of Ilogbo in the Sango-Ota area of Ogun State, Marufu Olasoji, has beaten his wife, Kehinde Olasoji, to death for allegedly committing adultery.

It was learnt that the 35-year-old welder repeatedly hit the wife’s head with an iron until she gave up the ghost.

He was said to have sprayed cement on her face and fled the neighbourhood, leaving her in a pool of blood.

The incident happened around 8pm on Monday at the Chelsea neighbourhood of the Sango-Ota area.

PUNCH Metro gathered that Marufu had turned Kehinde, a hairdresser, who had three children for him, to a punch bag while their 15-year relationship lasted.

Our correspondent was told that the wife, aged 35, left the welder with her children three months ago when she could no longer endure the assault.

On the fateful day, she was said to have been invited by the suspect, who reportedly accused her of having extra-marital affairs. The accusation was said to have led to an altercation which led to Kehinde’s death.

It was learnt that policemen from the Onipanu Police Division, Ogun State, launched a manhunt for the husband after a neighbour reported the case at the station. He was eventually arrested around 6am on Tuesday.

While lamenting Kehinde’s death, her brother, Kolawole Akinbote, said she was the one responsible for the upkeep of the three children

He said, “He (Marufu) did not bother about the schooling and feeding of the children. She was the one taking care of them. Upon all that, he still beat her. Our mother was just discharged from a hospital, where she was admitted. She is 76. How will she handle this loss?”

We note with deep consternation and concern for the dignity and sanctity of the Judiciary, the petition recently sent by the Honourable Justice Folahanmi Oloyede to the Osun State House of Assembly, for the impeachment and removal from office, of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, Governor of Osun State. We are disturbed by the source of this petition because it reveals the embarrassing and gross ignorance of the Judge regarding the process for the impeachment of Governors. We are also disturbed by this apparently reckless descent of a Judicial officer into the murky waters of partisan politics.
The process for the removal of a governor by impeachment is clearly set out in Section 188 of the Constitution. It states as follows:

Senate rejects motion to bring back tollgates

The Senate on Wednesday rejected a motion to reintroduce tollgates on all constructed and motorable roads in the country.
The upper chamber, however, urged the Federal Government to undertake immediate rehabilitation and dualisation of major highways and interstate roads across the country.
It also asked the Federal Ministry of Works to urgently explore additional ways to fund federal road rehabilitation projects in the country.
It mandated its ad-hoc Committee on Works to embark on audit of all road projects in Nigeria with a view to producing raw data for further necessary legislative action.
The Senate underscored the need to find lasting solution to road problems in the country in view of its attendant negative impact on trade and commerce.
The resolutions of the Senate followed a motion by Senator Dino Melaye and co-sponsored by 90 others.
In his lead debate, Melaye lamented that several trillions of naira had been spent on road re-construction and rehabilitation in the country since the return to democracy with minimal or no impact at all.
Senator Samuel Egwu (Ebonyi North) who supported the motion said there was no better time to reconstruct all federal roads in the country than now that Nigeria is working towards diversification of the economy.
Egwu noted that federal roads in the South East in particular had been in bad shape since the civil war in despite the contributions of those from the region to the growth of the economy.
He said, “The roads in the South East, particularly in Ebonyi State are death traps.
“Ebonyi  State is one of the hubs of agriculture but the roads are in bad shape and that has made movement of goods and services  to other parts of the country very difficult.’’

We’ll maintain NYSC for national unity – Buhari

We'll maintain NYSC for national unity - Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday promised that his administration will take all necessary actions to maintain and improve the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme as a functional vehicle for the promotion of national unity and integration.
Buhari gave the assurance after receiving a briefing from officials of the Federal Ministry of Youth Development led by the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Rabi Jimeta.
The President, according to a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, affirmed his confidence and trust in the programme, noting that the objective for which the scheme was established in 1973 is still very relevant for national development now.
He said: “I firmly believe in NYSC and I think it should remain a national programme to promote integration.
“Whenever I go home to Daura, I look out for Corps members from Lagos, Aba and other parts of the country.
“I am always thrilled to learn that except for the NYSC, some of them have never left their states of origin to visit other cities in the country.”
Mrs. Jimeta told the President that the increasing number of NYSC participants posed a challenge to the scheme due to the dwindling revenue from the national budget, to cater for their needs.
She told the President that the annual enrolment of corps participants had increased from 2,364 at inception in 1974 to 229,016 in 2014.
“Given the increasing number of tertiary institutions, our projection is that the number of corps participants may rise to 300,000 by year 2020,’’ she said.
The Director-General of NYSC, Brigadier-General Johnson Olawumi, told the President that there were plans to make the scheme voluntary and reduce the corps population to make the programme more sustainable.
