Lagos INEC Yet To Recieve 400,000 PVCs

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Lagos State on Friday said about 400, 000 Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) were still being expected from its headquarters for distribution to their owners.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mr Akin Orebiyi, said this while addressing newsmen in Lagos.

Orebiyi pleaded with eligible voters whose cards were among those still expected to be patient with the commission, assuring that the outstanding cards would soon be delivered.

“As at the first week of January, the percentage of distribution of PVCs was hovering around 38 per cent, but as at the end of last week, it was 62.7 per cent.

“But, we are still working seriously because we know that quite a number of people are still yet to collect their PVCs; we want to make sure that they are able to collect these cards.

“As we speak, out of 5,905, 000 cards for Lagos State, we have distributed 3,654,000, but I also need to say that out of 5.9 million, we are still awaiting the arrival of about 400,000 cards.

“As soon as we are able to receive them, we will also be able to push them out so that people can come out to collect them.

“We are expecting additional cards in practically all the 20 Local Government Areas,” he said.

He said that commission had outstanding cards in some polling units in Oshodi-Isolo, Mushin, Ibeji-Lekki, Ikeja, Ifako-Ijaiye, Badagry, Ikorodu, Agege, Ajeromi-Ifelodun, Eti-Osa, Apapa, Ojo, Lagos-Island, Kosofe, Surulere, Amunwo-Odofin, Somolu and Epe.

“Also, in Alimosho, we want to urge our people to continue to exercise patience, especially in Shasha, Akowonjo, Idimu, Isheri-olofin, Ikotun, Ijegun, Egbe, Agbojo as well as Ipaja.

“These are the specific areas where we are expecting cards, but we have been given assurance from our headquarters that as early as Monday next week, these cards would start arriving.

“Again, we want to appeal to our people to kindly continue to bear with us and exercise patience; we are working to ensure that these cards arrive in time,” he said.

Orebiyi said that the commission was compiling the distribution for the outgoing week, which could be released by next week.

He said, however, that the commission had no fewer than 1.8 million PVCs not yet claimed in the state.

The commissioner urged owners of the yet-to-be collected cards to find time to pick them up before the deadline on March 8.

Orebiyi said that the commission would go beyond the local governments and distribute the cards at the polling units on Feb 27, Feb 28, March 6 and March 7.

He also spoke on the allegation of sidelining some sections of the community from getting their cards.

“There is no intention on the part of INEC or any of its officials to deny any single ethnic group, any single community or any single individual of his card.

“But, if any person has difficulties, he should let us know,” Orebiyi said.

He said that the state had received over 12,000 Smart Card readers and they were being configured specially to each polling unit in the state.

“Each smart card reader is configured to work only in a particular polling unit; it cannot work in any other where it is not configured for and no person can use another person’s card.

“The issue of stealing or buying cards will come to naught; we want to beg our people to desist from buying cards.

“The issue of cloned cards will not work on that day, if anyone comes with a fake card, such will answer some questions from the law enforcement agents,” he said.

NAN reports that the commissioner demonstrated how the smart card readers work to add value and credibility to the elections.

Ideye Priceless - WBA Manager

West Bromwich Albion’s manager, Tony Pulis has praised in form Nigerian striker, Brown Ideye.

Brown Ideye has been on an amazing form since Pulis took over the club in January.
Ideye in Action
Ideye in Action
The record transfer from Dynamo Kyiv had been blasted by critics and fans alike after underperforming in his first 6 months in the EPL.
In January the club was ready to sell him to Qatari club- Al-Gharafa but the move failed to materialize and since then the 26- year old has experienced a turnaround in his form and has scored four goals from his last three game
There are still rumours going around of a potential sale of the player and Pulis has decided to beat it out.
“He has certainly looked like a player we want in the last couple of weeks. It is just confidence. He has scored a couple of goals and the weight of pressure and expectation on his shoulders, with the fee and coming into a new country, a new football club, it has taken all that weight off him. We are delighted,” Pulis said.

When asked if there was still a chance Ideye could move on in the summer, the manager said: “I have not even thought about it. The only thing on my mind is going up to the Stadium of Light on Saturday and trying to get a result up there, which we know will be very difficult.”

Ideye had asked the fans to have patience with him during his early troubles but there had been high pressure to get rid of him.

David Mark, Tambuwal Salaries And Pension Revealed

Nigerians have been for sometime now complaining of the ridiculous amount of money made by the lawmakers and other public office holders, despite this a new recommendation has been approved by the state Houses of Assembly for presiding officers to enjoy pension for life.

This was added to the ongoing amendment to the 1999 Constitution, earlier passed by the National Assembly.
senate-president-david-mark-and-speaker-house-of-representatives-aminu-tambuwal-360x225.jpg
Nigeria’s former leader including coup throwers and Past chief justices are currently enjoying this massive payoff.
The amendment acquired a huge support of 33 out of the 36 state legislatures votes.
They inserted a new alteration of Section 84 of the Constitution to insert a new subsection 5A to read, “Any person who has held office as President of the Senate, Speaker or Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, shall be admitted to pension for life at a rate equivalent to the annual salary of the incumbent President or Deputy President of the Senate, Speaker or Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives”.

The law however came with a proviso that “Provided that such a person was not removed from office by the process of impeachment or for breach of any of the provision of this Constitution”.
The law also would help current Senate president, David Mark who as a military retiree is currently enjoying pensions from the FG.
This is against Nigerian public service rules which clearly prohibits public office holders from drawing pension from more than one government source.
The only states to oppose the amendments where Edo, Ondo and Osun States legislatures.
The chambers of the National Assembly, Senate and the House of Representatives, had in 2014 approved the proposal on pension, alongside those for more than a dozen other subjects, before sending them to the state Houses of Assembly for concurrence or otherwise, in line the provisions of the Constitution. At least 24 states assembly must vote in support for any clause to pass.
Premium Times revealed the exact salary of the major public holders and amount they are bound to make upon retirement below.
According to the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission, RMAFC, the Senate President takes an annual basic salary of N2, 484,242.00 and allowances totalling N13, 911,758.00, while the Deputy Senate President earns N2, 309,166.75 and allowances totalling N12, 931,333.55.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives earns an annual basic salary of N2, 477,110.00 and allowances running into N9, 784,384.00, while the deputy takes N2, 287,034.25 and N8, 004,280.00, as salary and allowances, respectively.
The amendment, which says the former leaders of the National Assembly will draw the “equivalent of their annual salary”, adds to a growing number of legal provisions assigning lucrative retirement packages for Nigerian public officials after they leave office.
Several Nigerian governors have in the past years voted huge perks and benefits for themselves and their family members, with provisions not just for pensions and gratuities, but for foreign medical treatment for themselves and their spouses, and provisions for state burial when they eventually die.
Other amendments
The state legislatures also adopted the proposal for independent candidacy in future elections with 32 states voting in favour and four opposing. The four states are Kano, Ondo, Rivers and Yobe.
By the voting pattern, Sections 131 and 177 of the Constitution will now be altered in paragraph C by inserting after the last of the word “party” in line 2, the word “or he is an independent candidate”.

Also, 32 state Houses of Assembly voted to split the office of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice. At the state level, the Commissioner of Justice will exist differently from the attorney general.
Accordingly, Sections 150 and 195 shall be altered to separate the two offices.
On citizenship, the legislative houses accepted the insertion of a new section “25A” into the Constitution for anyone born in a state other than his own to enjoy the rights and privileges as indigenes of that particular state.
The section says, (1) “A citizen of Nigeria is an indigene of a particular community of a state in Nigeria if (a) he was born in that state; (b) his parents or grandparents belong to a community indigenous to that state; (c) he has resided in that state continuously for a period of not less than ten years; or (d) being a woman, who is married to an indigene of the community of that state, unless she chooses to retain the indigeneship of her paternal community.”
(2) “A person mentioned in subsection (1) of this section shall be entitled to all the rights and privileges as indigene of that state.”
All the states except Ondo adopted the proposal for the president to deliver an annual state of the nation address at the National Assembly. The amendment says the president will “attend a joint meeting of the National Assembly once a year to deliver an address in respect of the state of the nation.”

Nigerian president are guaranteed salary till the end of their lives, but this recent law will also make sure that public office holders also enjoy this presidential benefit.

9 Simple Ways To Prevent Cancer

Well, if you have a healthy lifestyle, chances are you probably won’t get the dreaded cancer!
cancer-lambert_2469736bThis is because “As many as 70% of known causes of cancers are avoidable and related to lifestyle,” says Thomas A. Sellers, PhD, associate director for cancer prevention and control at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa. Diet, exercise, and avoidance of tobacco products are, of course, some of the first precautions to be taken, but recent research has uncovered many small, surprising ways you can weave even more disease prevention into your everyday life.
Here are a few things you can do to prevent the chances of cancer:
 1. Filter your tap water
When you filter your water, your chances of being opened to chemicals that are very dangerous to your hormones are very low. A report from the President’s Cancer Panel on how to reduce this exposure suggests that home-filtered tap water is a safer than bottled water, whose quality often is not higher—and in some cases is worse. Always store your water in stainless steel or glass to avoid chemical contaminants that can percolate from plastic bottles.
2. Stop topping your Car tank
the President’s Cancer Panel has mace it known that pumping one last squirt of gas into your car after the nozzle clicks off can spill fuel and foil the pump’s vapor recovery system, designed to keep toxic chemicals such as cancer-causing benzene out of the air, where they can come in contact with your skin or get into your lungs.
3. Marinate meat first
Always allow your processed, charred, and well-done meats to get absorbed in a sauce or its flavoring. This is because the meats can contain cancer-causing heterocyclic amines, which form when meat is cooked at a very high temperature. Note that the fact that a meat is burnt does not mean it is totally cooked. If possible, cut down on grilled meat, but if not, make sure the meats are well-seasoned before you proceed to cook them.
4. Caffeinated Cofees every day Goes a long way
It has been made known that drinking 5 or more cups of caffeinated coffee a day has a 40% decrease the risk of brain cancer, compared to those who drank less.  A 5-cup-a-day coffee habit reduces risks of oral and throat cancer almost as much.
5. Water down your risk
Drinking plenty of water and other liquids may reduce the risk of bladder cancer by diluting the concentration of cancer-causing agents in urine and helping to flush them through the bladder faster. Drink at least 8 cups of liquid a day, suggests the American Cancer Society.
6. Burn off your risk
Moderate exercise such as walking 2 hours a week cuts risk of breast cancer 18%. Regular workouts may lower your risks by helping you burn fat, which otherwise produces its own estrogen, a known contributor to breast cancer.
7. Head off cell phone risks
Always use earphones when you are on a long call. Do not take a long call with your ears stuck to your phone. This increases Cancer risks. Use your cell phone only for short calls or texts, or use a hands-free device that keeps the phone—and the radio frequency energy it emits—away from your head.
8. Wear colors of clothes that can ‘prevent’ cancer
Choosing your outdoor outfit wisely may help protect against skin cancer, say Spanish scientists. In their research, blue and red fabrics offered significantly better protection against the sun’s UV rays than white and yellow ones did. Also never forget to leave your home without your hat.
9. Increase your calcium intake
Milk’s main claim to fame may also help protect you from colon cancer. Those who took calcium faithfully for 4 years had a 36% reduction in the development of new precancerous colon polyps 5 years after the study had ended, revealed Dartmouth Medical School researchers. (They tracked 822 people who took either 1,200 mg of calcium every day or a placebo.) Though the study was not on milk itself, you can get the same amount of calcium in three 8-ounce glasses of fat-free milk, along with an 8-ounce serving of yogurt or a 2- to 3-ounce serving of low-fat cheese daily.

OPINION: The "New" Olusegun Obasanjo

Those of us born after the 60’s were taught about the heroics and bravery of the retired General Olusegun Obasanjo in the four walls of elementary and secondary schools.
‘The Civil War lasted for years,” my primary school teacher, Mr. Bayo, began one of his numerous recounts of how the Nigerian Civil War of 1967 ended. “So many people were killed. But the war was brought to an end when the 3rd Marine Commando Division led by Olusegun Obasanjo took over Owerri. This single act ended the war.”
Like all the patriots who have served before and after him, he bled to protect fellow countrymen and women. But, above all, he stood his ground in ensuring that sovereignty of our dear country is never jeopardized.
Unlike many of his colleagues in the military who, in their lust for power, have forcefully got one through coup, Obasanjo showed exemplary leadership, discipline and great respect for the democratic institution by not participating in any coups. He even supervised the return to civilian rule in 1979. All the above Obasanjo should be praised for.
But story becomes history, and history becomes legend, and legend becomes myth. Obasanjo became the president of Nigeria in 1999 after years of military rule. Many argue that this single act rubbished whatever goodwill Obasanjo had. He could have simply rejected the offer and preserved the illusion of his heroism. Others believe that Obasanjo became the president of Nigeria at a time his patriotism was most needed and he could have written his name in gold if only he didn’t let greed take over his soul.
Far different from the Obasanjo of the “olden times” who served with the late Murtala Mohammed, the Obasanjo of 1999 was a man changed by the iron bars of prison. If there was any goodwill Obasanjo worked hard to achieve before 1999, he forfeited it thereafter.
Under his watch, corruption, graft and nepotism were knighted into the nucleus of democratic institutions. Nigeria, a nation with every needed elements to grow and develop, was dragged back to the primordial days. He corrupted key institutions and processes – the INEC, the police, civil service, legislature, among others. To say the Obasanjo’s administration didn’t have some pluses would be unfair. The privatization of the telecom industry and bank recapitalization were strong and needed policies his government implemented. But his bads overweighs his goods.
  • In the report of the infamous Halliburton fraud, President (as he then was) Obasanjo supervised the sharing of the $74 million bribe by Halliburton to influence the award of the liquefied natural gas (LNG) contract in Nigeria. He was reported to have given his aide, Bodunde Adeyanju, a whooping $21 million of the bribe. This is less the Siemens and Wilbros oil scams.
  • The $16 billion allocated for the National Integrated Power Project developed magical legs while additional N16 billion was paid to 34 ghost companies to execute project under the same scheme.
  • Obasanjo directed the sale of the Kaduna and Port Harcourt refineries to friends at a giveaway price of $750 milion.
  • In his promise to revive the railway sector, President Obasanjo removed N8.3 billion from the nation’s treasury, but this money miraculously didn’t get to the rails.
  • On February 5, 2009, the Daily Sun reported that President Obasanjo has allegedly single-handedly withdrawn N232 billion from the Federation Account without any approval from the National Assembly.
  • The bilateral air transport agreement (BASA) fund of $86 million felt the touch of the former President, as $68.8 million “suddenly disappeared” via an order from Obasanjo.
  • Transcorp, believed to be directly linked to Obasanjo Holdings Limited, suddenly got acquisition of four major oil blocs (namely, OPL218, 219, 209 and 220) allocated to it on 21 July 2005 by President Obasanjo; it also acquired NITEL and Nicon-Hilton.
  • At the twilight of his administration, President Olusegun Obasanjo awarded some contracts totalling N850 bn in the following tranches: N70 billion to revive textile industry; N58.6bn for the second Niger Bridge and maintenance of same for N42bn; N16.53bn for reconstruction of the Lagos port harbours; N20bn for expansion of the Lagos airport; N4.8bn to build permanent accommodation for the Security and Exchange Commission (SEC); N1.39bn for construction of the Ministry of Defence’s permanent residence; N1.4bn for conversion of steam and head for power plant; N47.4bn for conversion of the Alaoji power plant to double circuit; N3.5bn for procurement and repair of two boilers at the Egbin power station; N233 million to fix the Agege-Lagos road. All these funds were stolen!
  • In his infamous third-term move, the former President was reported to have bribed members of the National Assembly with a total sum of N10 billion, a report former Senate President, Ken Nnamani and Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila corroborated.
Today, the same Obasanjo parades himself as a nationalist and a statesman. In his book titled ‘My Watch’, Obasanjo amplified himself as a saint who was surrounded by criminals, but, above all, a saint. The book illustrates the fiction of what Obasanjo would have loved to be and represent. Just like he demonstrated in ‘My Command’, his personal memoir on the civil war, he centers himself as a Marvel superhero against everyone. Today, he stands up tall to blast the administration of Goodluck Jonathan, as he did against the late Umaru Yar’adua and Gbenga Daniel. The sin of the trio was that they didn’t give him the privilege to run via proxy. Most of the attacks on the Jonathan administration were based on the flaws and frauds of the Obasanjo’s administration.
A renowned political satirist, Elnathan John, said recently, “Nigeria is great. You can try to elongate your tenure, fail, leave office, then write sermons to the incumbent on good governance and sh…t.”
The “new” Obasanjo has shown himself to be a man whose engine runs on consistent publicity. He places himself as a center of attraction and loves to be in control of everyone and everything around him. A friend recently described the “new” Obasanjo as a “selfish, vindictive, narcissistic fox”.
During a recent interview with Fox TV, reproduced by Washington Times, on why he has refused to critique the Obama administration, George W. Bush replied: “I don’t think it’s good for the country to have a former president undermine a current president; I think it’s bad for the presidency for that matter.”  Further, he said: “I really have had all the fame I want. I really don’t long for publicity. And the truth of the matter is in order for me to generate publicity I’d have to either attack the Republican Party, which I don’t want to do, or attack the president, which I don’t want to do. And so I’m perfectly content to be out of the limelight.”
The new Obasanjo needs to understand that to truly seek equity, one must come with clean hands. The backwardness, dilapidation and putrefaction of Nigeria is majorly the result of eight years of grand corruption, greed, and graft supervised, presided and executed by him.

PHOTOS: Adams Oshiomhole And Widows In Edo State

After the well publicised altercation between him and a widow in Edo State, the no 1 citizen of the State, Adams Oshiomole has since then, taken the welfare of the widows in the state as a no 1 priority.

Oshiomole, who is co-incidentally a widower, has been at the front-burner of advocating for the welfare of the widows since that unfortunate incident.
Beyond the rhetorics, the comrade-governor or Oshio-baba as he is fondly called has taken concrete steps to address the challenges Edo State widows face.

Recently, the governor distributed materials for some group of widows in the state. They include grinding machines, sewing machines, hair dryers and Ten thousand Naira for each for the women.
On hand to distribute the materials were Governor Oshiomole and the wife of the state’s deputy governor, Deaconess (Mrs) Endurance Odubu.

How trans-border car snatcher disposed a Toyota Camry for N50,000

A notorious car snatching syndicate terrorizing motorists in Enugu State and its environs has been apprehended by the operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad of Enugu Police command.
The suspect, Samuel Chukwuokike,32,from Ohaozara in Ebonyi State snatched his victim’s Toyota Camry at gunpoint along Mount Street, Agbani road axis of Enugu on September, 2014.

His words:”I came to Enugu from Lagos, having tried my hands in trade and other businesses but to no avail. My plan was to travel to South-Africa to sought greener pastures. But my challenge was that of finance. “I needed N250,000 to make the travel to South-Africa. It was at a beer parlour called ‘Isi-ewu joint’ in Keyattha street axis of Enugu  that I met Jackie.
Jackie was the one who contracted me to snatch a car for him. He assured me that he will buy the car once I snatched it from a victim. “On that fateful day, I contacted my friend Ike, having acquired a locally made pistol with two live cartridges  from the owner of a ‘bunk’ where I go to smoke Indian Hemp. We set out around 9PM. It was along Mount Street that we met our victim.
“He parked his car and was talking with somebody when we swooped on him. I quickly brandished the gun I pulled out and ordered him to surrender the key. He quickly did and we drove off to Prisco Hotel, Abakiliki, Ebonyi state. Jackie had told me to bring the car at the hotel and collect N250,000 for the car.

Nigerian woman gangraped by for men in Indian

Police in Delhi arrested four men on Friday in connection with the alleged gangrape of a Nigerian woman in a moving car, the latest in a series of sex attacks in the Indian capital. The 35-year-old, who has been staying in India on a tourist visa, told police the men kidnapped her after midnight on Friday morning outside a popular shopping mall in New Delhi’s Saket area before bundling her into a car. They then drove for around half an hour, during which time the alleged gangrape took place, before pushing her out of the vehicle. The woman, who cannot be named, was finally rescued after a passerby spotted her on the side of the road in Mayur Vihar, around 20 kilometres (12 miles) away in east Delhi. “We have received a complaint from the woman and investigations are ongoing,” Delhi police spokesman Rajan Bhagat told AFP. “We have filed a case under relevant sections.” Bhagat said the four men arrested were Indians, and the car allegedly used had been impounded. Local media, quoting police sources, said the victim was in an inebriated condition at the time of her rescue and had suffered minor injuries but was released from hospital by Friday afternoon. Nigerian embassy officials in New Delhi were not available for comment. The city sealed its reputation as India’s “rape capital” two years ago when a medical student died after being gang-raped on a moving bus, prompting mass protests and triggering a series of policing and legal reforms. Last year, a driver for US-based online taxi service Uber allegedly sexually assaulted a woman passenger in New Delhi while driving her home from a dinner. Police figures released earlier this year said 2,069 rape cases were registered in New Delhi during 2014, a 31 percent jump compared to the previous year.

Naira hits N215 to dollar at BDC’s segment

Lagos – The Naira on Friday depreciated by N5 to the dollar as it traded N215 at the Bureau De Change (BDCs) segment of the official market. It also depreciated by N7 at the black market, selling at N217 to the dollar. A dealer, who preferred anonymity, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that the depreciation might be due to the closure of the Retail Dutch Auction System (RDAS) by the CBN. It was closed by CBN on Feb. 18. RDAS is a foreign exchange window at CBN where the Bureau de Change and commercial banks buy forex. The dealer said that the CBN’s decision, which was meant to control speculations, had made other currencies to be scarce. He also said that dealers were left to source for forex only at the interbank market unlike in the past when they had three to four segments to buy. Besides, the Naira against the pound at the BDCs exchanged for N332 from the N307 it sold on Monday. It went for N335 at the black market from the N314 it sold four days ago. The Naira lost N5 to the Euro to sell at N240, when compared with the N235 it sold on Monday Feb.16 at the BDCs. The currency, at the black market, traded for N244 as against the N237 it traded on Monday. (NAN) -

Jonathan says victory for PDP will free Lagos residents from oppression

Lagos –  President Goodluck Jonathan said on Friday in Lagos that victory for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the upcoming general elections would free Lagos residents from oppression.
He stated this when the leaders of market women groups, “Iyalojas”, in Lagos and environs, paid him a solidarity visit at the State House, Marina, Lagos.
Jonathan, who was reacting to the complaint of high-handedness and witch-hunting made by the market women against the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Lagos state government.
President Jonathan

He told the market women, and indeed, all traders in the country that the PDP administration would provide the enabling environment for them to ply their trades.
“Our victory at the polls will free all Lagos traders from oppression. You need to be free; we will remove Lagos from bondage,’’ he assured.
He commended the women for supporting his re-election bid and urged them not to be intimidated by their opponents.
“I have listened to you; you have been carrying the PDP flag; you have been humiliated but you still marched on.
“Thank you for working hard for PDP; this is the final struggle and time for us to use all our strength to achieve victory,’’ he said, adding that the country belonged to every Nigerian.
“If we struggle and win Lagos state, everybody will do his business without being harassed or intimidated,’’ the president added.
Earlier, the leader of the market women, Hajia Aminat Hussein, had told the president that they had stood behind PDP since its inception but regretted that the members suffered harassment under in Lagos state.
She said that in spite of the attempts by APC “to buy over many of the market women”, the women would mobilise themselves in the state and in other states to ensure victory for the president.
“We are promising you that you will not lose in Lagos; this coming election is for Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and God is with you,’’ she added.
Sen. Musiliu Obanikoro, former Minister of State for Defence, who accompanied the group, told the president that the group was working to tell the world that the ruling party in Lagos “are not untouchables’’.
“These women are more concerned about the reality than news in the social media. APC will be shocked on Election Day; we believe in our president.
“I do not know of any president that is as humble as Jonathan. If you have such a man as president your interest will be protected,’’ Obanikoro said.
He said that the North had served as president for so many times, and that the West had taken its turn “and the only president elected from South-South which provides the country with its wealth, should be allowed to complete his tenure”. (NAN)

Amber Rose to spill the beans on Kanye, says he put hands on her, likes his booty hole played with

Amber Rose to spill the beans on Kanye, says he put hands on her, likes his booty hole played with
How are going to date a women for two years, someone who knows where you buried all the dead bodies, someone who doesn't particularly has reservations, has nothing to lose and you go on radio to slam her, saying you had to take 30 showers before you could be with another woman (who probably has more body count)? Well, Amber is furious with Kanye and she's coming for him. Continue...

Read the report from MediaTakeOut.com below..
The SH*T just hit the fam. MediaTakeOut.com spoke with one of Amber's closest friends - who tell us that she's FURIOUS - with the ongoing SLANDER CAMPAIGN that she's being hit with - from Kanye and the Kardashian's - and she's ready to drop the BOMB, and spill Kanye's tea.
What's the tea, you ask? Well ALLEGEDLY when Kanye and Amber used to date - Kanye liked his BOOTY PLAYED WITH. Not the booty - the HOLE . . . EWWW . . .
But here's where it gets even MORE messy Amber also claims that Kanye has PUT HANDS ON HER in the past - and left bruises - which she has photographic evidence of.
Kanye and Amber had entered into a legal NON-DISCLOSURE agreement in the past - where Amber agreed NOT TO TELL. But she now feels that since Kanye went on the radio this morning and basically called her a"DIRTY B*TCH" . . . she should be able to spill his tea.
This saga is about to get real good.

efforts to investigate.
Basketmouth was angry that a tribute he paid to his brother, who died 10 years ago, was made to look like something that happened in 2015.
Returning from his Valentine’s Day show at the Apollo Centre in London, which was a sell-out, the humour merchant advised bloggers to take time to verify information at their disposal.
On February 14, 2015, Basketmouth posted on his tweeter handle, “you’ll always be remembered, loved and cherished. RIP Kingsley Okpocha. I love you bro.”
According to him, the item was posted by some bloggers “as if i just lost my brother.”
“Anyway, I lost my eldest brother on the 14th of Feb 2005, not 2 days ago,” Basketmouth wrote.
“When our Nigerian bloggers copy and paste stories they don’t even investigate nor carry out proper research,” he added.
Meanwhile, some of his fans, unaware of the hoax have continued to tweet their condolences to the comedian. (NAN)

Mixed-reactions trail Ghanaian singer’s comment on Jesus

Mixed-reactions have continued to trail the comment credited to popular Ghanaian singer, Belinda Ekua Amoah, a.k.a Mzbel, who reportedly said she does not believe in the existence of Jesus Christ.
The singer who was speaking on TV programme on Restoration, said she is confident stories about the ‘Holy son of God’ were made up.
“I don’t want to offend anybody. I used to believe in ‘it’ but eerrmm, I did my own research and I think ‘it’ was made up but I might be wrong, but by my own research, it was made up. Because the same story 5000 years ago happened in Egypt…”
Mzbel
Mzbel
Comparing the story of the ‘Messiah’ – as Christian’s call him – to the story of Horus, one of the oldest and most significant deities in ancient Egyptian religion, Mzbel said the similarities are too apt.
According to her, Jesus’s story is an imitation of that of Horus whom according to her “research”, predates Jesus.
“I used to believe in ‘it’, I prayed in tongues. I can pray in tongue right now. I actually prayed in my room one time until the room was filled up in smoke…but now trust me, I will not believe in it anymore.”
Meanwhile, the internet has been awash with divergent views since she dropped the bombshell. Some of the aggrieved people who took to the social media to attack the controversial singer believe that she’s demonized, while very many others do not see anything wrong with her submission.
Reacting to her outburst, Edith Makae said, “Oh this girl is really sick. She doesn’t even know what she’s saying, she will get it”, while Mike Wyatt wrote “I think if she re-reads the Old and New Testament she might be very surprised and more than a little embarrassed as to how her research has got her lost. Still maybe she needs some quick fame and publicity to get her singing career noticed. God Our Loving Father notices her. So ‘Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.”
According to Joshua Ahianyo, God is not seen through research but through revelation.”I don’t think she really knows what’s she is talking about. Does she think its her own power that she is doing the singing and other things. She should kneel down and beg the Lord for forgiveness,’ wrote Aryeh Isaac.
Also, those who did not see anything wrong with her submission argued that the singer have added to human knowledge. “ Mzbel is on the way to wisdom. Don’t be hard on her. Everybody must one day doubt and deny what you know to know what you really know,” wrote Will Wobenetsi.

Chelsea to ban three over Paris racism

Chelsea suspended three people from attending the club’s Stamford Bridge stadium on Thursday as part of the Premier League team’s investigation into a racist incident on the Paris Metro.
A black commuter was pushed back by what appeared to be a group of Chelsea fans travelling to the Parc des Princes for the 1-1 Champions League last 16 first leg against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday.
A chant of “We’re racist and that’s the way we like it” from the Chelsea fans was clearly audible on a video of the incident at the Richelieu-Drouot Metro station.Chelsea-Eto'O
Chelsea responded to widespread condemnation of the incident by announcing three supporters had been identified and have been suspended, pending further investigation.
The swift action prevents those supporters from attending Saturday’s Premier League match with Burnley at Stamford Bridge, which has been designated a ‘Game for Equality’.
The supporters face life bans if they are found guilty.
“Chelsea Football Club is suspending three people from Stamford Bridge as a result of investigations into the incident on the Paris Metro on Tuesday evening,” a statement on the club’s website announced.
“If it is deemed there is sufficient evidence of their involvement in the incident, the club will issue banning orders for life.
“We have received substantial information to date following our witness appeal and we are grateful to the many Chelsea supporters who have provided information so far.
“Our investigations are on-going and we would request any further information is sent to customer.services@chelseafc.com.
“We also continue to cooperate fully with the Metropolitan and Paris police forces who lead the ongoing criminal investigation.”
The supporters’ action were condemned by British Prime Minister David Cameron, FIFA president Sepp Blatter and anti-racism groups Football Against Racism in Europe and Kick It Out.
Chelsea’s first ever black player, Paul Canoville, said he was “embarrassed” and “ashamed” by the incident.
And prior to revealing the suspensions, Chelsea has already released a statement describing the incident as “abhorrent” and vowed to take the “strongest possible” action if supporters are found to be involved.
Paris prosecutors had earlier confirmed that the alleged victim, identified in media reports as 33-year-old Souleymane S., had made a formal complaint.
The French authorities are working with their British counterparts and anyone convicted of “deliberate racial violence on public transport” could face a prison term of up to three years and a fine of up to 45,000 euro (£33,000).
In an interview with Le Parisien on Thursday, the man described by the newspaper as French-Mauritanian, called for those involved to be jailed.
The man, reported by Le Parisien to be a chief operating officer at a business close to the Metro station, told the newspaper: “These people, these English supporters, have to be found, punished and should be locked up. What happened shouldn’t go unpunished.
“I understood that they were attacking me because of the colour of my skin. I wanted to get into the carriage but a group of English supporters blocked me and pushed me away. I tried to force my way on, I again tried to go back. In the jostling, I lost my phone.
“They were saying things in English to me but I wasn’t understanding what they were saying. I don’t speak a word of English.
“I went back to my home without talking to anyone about this story, not my wife or my children. What could I say to my children? That dad was shoved on the Metro because he is black? That wouldn’t be any use.”
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is expected to be asked about the incident at his pre-match press conference on Friday.

WHO gives green light to 15-minute Ebola test

The World Health Organization (WHO) announced Friday it had approved a 15-minute test for Ebola that should prove a fast and rugged tool in countries hit by the disease. The test is a little less accurate than the so-called gold standard of lab assessment, but does not need electricity or highly trained personnel to use it, WHO spokesman Tarik Jasarevic said. “Yesterday WHO assessed and listed (the) first antigen rapid test kit as being eligible for procurement to Ebola affected countries,” Jasarevic told reporters. “This is the first rapid antigen test that gives the results in 15 minutes,” Jasarevic said. He described it as “a breakthrough” because it takes so little time. “Where possible, obviously results from this antigen rapid test should be confirmed by testing by blood sample using normal PCR tests,” he added, referring a DNA analysis to detect the disease. The test, which is manufactured by the US firm Corgenix, “can correctly identify 92 percent of Ebola infected patients,” he said. It entails putting a drop of blood on a paper strip, which then shows positive or negative, like pregnancy test. WHO’s evaluation means that the test meets benchmarks for quality, safety and performance, he said. The WHO spokesman gave no details as to where and when the test would be introduced, but did indicate it would likely be bought by a UN agency. Health watchdogs are keen on a fast test because the current PCR test, which looks for telltale genetic signatures, can take up to 24 hours. A simple but reliable test would help doctors in the field to quarantine people likely to have the virus and airports to test passengers before they get on a flight. “The new antigen test is not a game-changer, but it is another useful tool in the fight against Ebola,” said Ben Neuman, a virologist at Britain’s University of Reading. “The new test could help to quickly confirm outbreaks in remote areas without the need to send samples to a testing clinic and wait for results,” he told the Science Media Centre (SMC) in London. “The new test isn’t about saving the lives of infected people, but it can help in the long run by making it easier and quicker to detect Ebola outbreaks.” Other prototype fast-track tests have been devised by scientists in Britain and France. As of February 15, WHO said 23,253 people had been infected with Ebola and 9,380 had died, the vast majority of them in Guinea, Sierre Leone and Liberia. - See more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/02/who-gives-green-light-to-15-minute-ebola-test/#sthash.L04tVRmv.dpuf

Racial abuse: Chelsea apologises to black Frenchman

Chelsea “apologised unreservedly” on Friday to the black Frenchman racially abused by some of their fans on the Paris Metro.
The commuter, identified as Souleymane S, a French-Mauritanian, was repeatedly prevented from boarding a train by Chelsea supporters travelling to the Parc des Princes for the Champions League match against Paris St Germain on Tuesday.
“I’d like to make clear, on behalf of everyone at the club, our disgust at the incident. We were appalled by what we saw,” a club spokesman said before manager Jose Mourinho began his weekly press conference.
He added: “The club would also like to apologise unreservedly to Souleymane for the behaviour of a small number of individuals and their unforgivable action towards him.
“We’re writing to him to apologise and to invite him to come to a game as our guest.”
Three men could face life bans from football after being suspended from attending Stamford Bridge by Chelsea as part of the ongoing investigation into the incident.

Court fixes March 3 for ruling on TB Joshua’s suit against coroner’s inquest

Ikeja – An Ikeja High Court fixed March 3 for ruling on a suit filed by the Synagogue Church Of All Nations against the ongoing coroner’s inquest into its collapsed guest house building. Justice Lateefa Okunnu reserved the date on Friday after hearing the reply on points of law filed by the church’s counsel, Chief Lateef Fagbemi. The inquest was set up by the Lagos State Government to investigate the Sept.12, 2014 building collapse which killed 116 people, mainly South Africans. However, the church and its founder, Prophet Temitope Joshua, had sued the government and the coroner, Mr Oyetade Komolafe, over the inquest. The applicants had asked for a judicial review of the proceedings before the coroner’s inquest which began on Oct.13, 2014. They had asked the court to determine whether the witness summons served on Joshua to appear before the coroner did not constitute an infringement on his right to fair hearing. The plaintiffs also asked the court to declare that Komolafe had exceeded the jurisdiction of a coroner’s court by delving into areas that were beyond its scope. In his reply on points of law, Fagbemi faulted the submissions of the respondents’ Counsel, Mr Akinjide Bakare, who had earlier told the court to dismiss the suit. He argued that the Lagos State Coroner’s Law 2007 only empowered the coroner to determine the cause of death and to identify the body of the deceased. Fagbemi urged Okunnu to stop the coroner’s inquest from becoming “a floodgate for all manners of incursion under the guise of investigation. “My lord, I submit respectfully sir, that even in the wider interpretation of the words ‘how’ and ‘manner,’ none of these words can accommodate the situation here to allow the coroner to go beyond mere investigation as to the cause of death,” he said. According to him, taking evidence on the issues of approval and construction of the collapsed building are clearly outside the scope and jurisdiction of the coroner’s court. Fagbemi said it was not in dispute that the coroner had invited people to come and give evidence on whether approval was sought and obtained or the kind of materials used for the building. He said that although the coroner’s system was not adversarial, its findings could, however, be used by anybody to file a law suit against his client. Fagbemi argued that Sections 32 and 33 of the Coroner Law did not empower the coroner to compel people to testify before the inquest. He also accused Komolafe of bias, adding that the coroner had demonstrated personal interest in the subject matter. The senior advocate of Nigeria, therefore, urged the court to grant the application and declare the coroner proceedings null and void. However, Bakare, argued that the coroner had extensive powers to investigate the cause and circumstances of death to bring his findings and recommendations to the attention of appropriate authorities. He said: “In doing this, he has all the powers of a magistrate to summon and compel the attendance of witnesses. Bakare argued that in order to determine the cause of death, the coroner had the latitude to investigate issues pertaining to building approval, soil testing and materials used in the construction of the collapsed building. Election shift saved Nigeria huge embarrassment – PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) , Friday, has said that contrary to subjective reactions that the postponement of the February election  was injurious to the nation’s democracy, unfolding events, especially the prevalent huge deficit in the distribution of the Permanent Voters Cards (PVC) have shown that the development rather saved the nation and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) a huge embarrassment.
The PDP said all lovers of democracy should appreciate those who raised the alarm that led to the postponement as any election on the earlier scheduled February 14 and 28 dates would have been chaotic and far from fair and credible as over 23 million registered voters would have been disenfranchised for no fault of theirs.
PDP National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh in a statement on Friday said,  “the fact that millions of Nigerians are still struggling to receive their PVCs a week after the February 14th date, clearly shows that the commission would have been thoroughly embarrassed had it gone ahead with the elections on that day.
“As at February 7, a week to the rescheduled elections, the Chairman of INEC, Prof. Attahiru Jega announced that only 45, 829, 808 representing 66.58 percent of the total number of registered voters have received their PVCs. INEC’s records also showed that 1.3 million cards were yet to be delivered by the printers while 1.1 million stolen cards were yet to be replaced as at that date.
“Whereas INEC gave the impressions that all processes including the PVC distribution will be perfected before February 14, it is disturbing that a week after that date, millions of Nigerians are still struggling to receive their cards, which confirms the fears that the commission was not truly ready for the election in February in spite of its posturing.
Olisa Metuh
Olisa Metuh
“Also, had the commission gone ahead with the polls on February 14, non-indigenes who were being denied their PVCs in select states such as Lagos and Kano would also have been disenfranchised. The shift gave INEC the time to tackle the issue, which led to the sacking of two of its culpable adhoc staff members in Lagos state.
“Furthermore, while briefing the Senate on Wednesday, the INEC Chairman had acknowledged that the postponement was a blessing in disguise which affords the commission and other stakeholders an ample opportunity to perfect all processes for credible elections.
“In Prof Jega’s words, ‘the period of extension has offered us an opportunity to further perfect the electoral process for the delivery of free, fair credible and peaceful elections to the satisfaction of the yearnings and aspirations of Nigerians. We hope that all stakeholders will continue to join hands with the commission to turn this disappointment into a blessing to our country. We believe that the effective utilization of this period of extension will enable INEC to have a flawless and near perfect conduct of elections’.
“We note that what is paramount for our nation at this point remains the conduct of credible, free and fair elections where all registered voters are given equal opportunity to exercise their franchise. We therefore urge all stakeholders to put the overall interest of the nation ahead of other considerations and desist from making unguarded statements or jumping into hasty conclusions regarding the preparations for the general elections”, the party said.
The PDP also restated its readiness for elections adding that with its array of credible candidates, numerous achievements and support of Nigerians, it is assured of emerging victorious at the polls

At least 30 dead in Boko Haram raids near Chibok

At least 30 people were killed in Boko Haram raids on two villages in northeast Nigerian Borno state near the town of Chibok, a community leader and resident told AFP on Friday. The attacks on Thursday targeted the villages of Thlaimakalama and Gatamarwa, which were torched by the rampaging militants, said Pogo Bitrus, head of the Chibok Elders Forum. “From information coming in from residents of the two villages at least 30 people were killed in the attacks,” he added. Luka Haruna, who lives in Chibok, some 15 kilometres (nine miles) away, gave an identical death toll and added: “The two villages were completely destroyed.” Chibok gained notoriety last April when Boko Haram fighters kidnapped 276 schoolgirls, causing global outrage and a social media campaign to release them. Fifty-seven managed to escape but 10 months on, 219 are still being held. Bitrus said the latest attacks happened about noon (1100 GMT) on Thursday. The insurgents were passing through the two neighbouring villages as they fled the nearby town of Askira Uba, which they invaded on Monday evening, he added. Hundreds of Boko Haram fighters stormed Askira Uba, burning homes and public buildings, despite a regional campaign to crush their six-year insurgency. Residents who fled the town said they appealed to troops based in Chibok some 25 kilometres away but they allegedly refused to deploy. The militants fled when soldiers were eventually sent. Some left towards Gwoza, on the border with Cameroon, and the Sambisa Forest, where Boko Haram has camps. Boko Haram seized Gwoza in June last year ‎and later declared it a part of their Islamic caliphate. The town is considered to be the group’s headquarters. Nigeria’s military said on Thursday that fighter jets had bombarded Sambisa Forest after Chad, which is involved in the regional fight-back, attacked the nearby town of Dikwa. Bitrus said: “The insurgents mowed everything in sight as they fled Askira Uba and these two villages which they passed through became targets. “They opened fire on residents and set houses on fire as they drove in a huge convoy.” - See more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/02/at-least-30-dead-in-boko-haram-raids-near-chibok/#sthash.tVodSwel.dpuf

Minister of Education, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, disclosed this yesterday, when he received Finnish Ambassador to Nigeria, Pirjo Suomela-Chowdhury, who paid him a visit in his office in Abuja.
He said the Federal Government would explore all measures to restore the respect, dignity and status of teachers in the country.
He was reacting to Ambassador Suomela-Chowdhury’s declaration that all teachers in Finland had a minimum of masters degree and that teaching is a highly competitive profession because of huge interest by too many qualified people.
Out-of-school
The minister, who said the target of the Federal Government was to make first degree as minimum teaching qualification, noting that from 1980, the minimum teaching qualification to teach in schools was National Certificate in Education, NCE.
He said this could be upped to first degree in time to come, adding that currently, there was a number of graduates teaching in primary schools in the country.
Shekarau recalled that the country was able to get over the practice in the past where primary school leavers were engaged to teach.
He said:  “The level was raised to Teacher Grade 3 in the 60s, and later on in early 70s, it was minimum of Grade 2, and this was later phased out in the early 80s to a minimum of NCE.
“Gradually we will get there. We hope that a day will come when all our schools including pre-primary will be handled by university graduates.
“The rate at which our universities are increasing shows that in time to come that will be our target. We have a lot to learn from each other regardless of the factor of the size. The challenges are the same.”
He said apart from the general agenda of government for improving access and quality of education, his particular concern as Minister of Education was to improve the quality of teachers as a key factor.
“We must continuously increase the number of teachers, improve the quality of teachers, improve the condition of teacher training institutions and continuously review the curriculum of teacher education to make sure it catches up with the challenges, address that issues of teachers’ welfare and job security,” he said.

Indonesia delays execution of two Australian drug smugglers

Indonesia has delayed the execution of two Australian drug smugglers by up to a month, backtracking on an earlier pledge to put the pair before the firing squad by the end of February. Vice President Jusuf Kalla’s office Friday said the execution of Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran, the ringleaders of the so-called “Bali Nine” heroin trafficking group, “will be delayed for between three weeks to a month from now due to technical reasons,” without elaborating further. Indonesian authorities insist they will proceed with the executions despite this delay. Widodo — an ardent supporter of the death penalty who has refused clemency for the two Australians — denied pressure from Australia had swayed his resolve to see drug traffickers executed. “No such thing,” he told reporters on Friday. “This is our judicial sovereignty.” Canberra has been ramping up diplomatic pressure in recent weeks for the pair to be spared, straining ties between the two countries, but analysts say public perception will guide Indonesian President Joko Widodo far more than pleas for mercy from Australia. Widodo has shocked rights groups with his support for capital punishment for drug dealers, vowing he won’t grant clemency to anyone caught selling narcotics to his countrymen. Hikmahanto Juwana, an international law professor from the University of Indonesia, said the majority of Indonesians shared Widodo’s tough stance on traffickers and expected him to tackle the “drug emergency” facing the country. “He should not back down because it was causing an uproar in Australia,” he told AFP. “If he backs down, he will face the Indonesian public.” – ‘Logistical difficulties’ – This month, Indonesia’s foreign ministry informed the Australian embassy that the execution of the two drug convicts would be carried out in February. But since then it has announced, and subsequently backtracked, on details of the executions plan for Chan and Sukumaran. On Monday it was announced the pair would be transferred this week from Bali to a high-security prison on Nusakambangan — signalling a date for their execution was near — only for that decision to be reversed 24 hours later. Indonesia said it delayed their transfer because of logistical difficulties at Nusakambangan — the notorious island prison where five inmates were shot last month — with facilities at the execution site already at capacity. Tony Spontana, a spokesman for the attorney-general’s office which oversees the executions, said once the prison was ready to receive the prisoners the executions would proceed. “What needs to be underscored is the execution will still be conducted,” he told AFP after the postponement was announced Friday. He has said previously the prisoners would only be taken to Nusakambangan three days before their execution. Death row inmates must be given 72 hours’ notice under Indonesian law before facing the firing squad. Indonesia also claimed they delayed the transfer because Australia had requested the men be granted more time with their families, but denied Jakarta was bowing to pressure from Canberra. – International pressure – Indonesia’s pledge to proceed with the execution of the Australians has hiked tensions between Jakarta and Canberra, a relationship only just recovering from a damaging rift in 2014 over spying revelations and people-smuggling. Aleksius Jemadu, a political expert at Indonesia’s Pelita Harapan University, said arm-twisting by Australia would not be at the front of Widodo’s mind as he mulls this issue. “The president is very much influenced by his image as a populist president,” he told AFP. “His government (by proceeding with the executions) will be considered a brave one which cannot be dictated to by foreigners, and is independent in decision making.” Diplomatic tensions boiled over this week after Prime Minister Tony Abbott said Indonesia should remember the significant financial aid Australia provided in the aftermath of the devastating 2004 tsunami that killed 170,000 Indonesians. Abbott denied the comment was threatening, but Indonesia’s Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi on Friday suggested Jakarta felt otherwise. “We will not respond to an emotional statement, which was a threat in nature,” she said, adding she did not think Indonesia owed Australia anything for their tsunami aid. Australia’s foreign minister Julie Bishop rang Kalla on Thursday to explain the “misunderstanding”, the vice-president told reporters Friday. Indonesia executed six drug offenders in January, including five foreigners, prompting a furious Brazil and the Netherlands — whose citizens were among those put to death — to recall their ambassadors. Chan and Sukumaran are among seven foreigners — including citizens from France, Ghana, Brazil and Nigeria — who have already lost their appeals for presidential clemency, the final hope of avoiding the firing squad. Lawyers for the Australians have lodged a rare legal challenge to the president’s decision to reject clemency, but Indonesian authorities have repeatedly said the appeal for a pardon is a death row convict’s final chance to avoid the firing squad. - See more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/02/indonesia-delays-execution-of-two-australian-drug-smugglers/#sthash.DsswBVOH.dpuf

Troops recapture B-Haram training base as Jonathan commissions warships

ABUJA – In furtherance of the ongoing military onslaught to rout Boko Haram terrorists from the North-East, Special Forces of the Nigerian Military, aided by the Air Force and Chadian troops, yesterday, pounded the Sambisa forest headquarters of the sect, killing 117 terrorists and arresting the Amir (Commander) of the sect. This came as Gwoza, which had become their new training base, was not spared.
The troops also recaptured Dikwa Local Government Area of Borno State.

WARSHIPS—President Goodluck Jonathan, yesterday, in Lagos, inaugurated four warships acquired by the Navy.
Dikwa, headquarters of old Kanem-Bornu Empire, was taken over by Boko Haram some months ago, forcing the first class monarch, Alhaji Abba Tor Masta II, and thousands of his subjects to take refuge in Maiduguri.
It will be recalled that the premier Mobile Police Training base is located at Gwoza and when Boko Haram overran the base and abducted 30 police officers, who are missing till date, the terrorists allegedly converted the base to their training camp.
Confirming the development, Director of Defence Information, Major General Chris Olukolade said: “A concerted air campaign by the Nigerian Air Force is ongoing in furtherance of the mission to clear terrorists from all their enclaves.
“The air strikes which today targeted the training camps and logistics dumps of the terrorists in Sambisa forest and parts of Gwoza have been highly successful as it achieved the aims with required precision.
“The death of a large number of terrorists has been recorded while many others are also scampering all over the forest and out of the struck bases.
“Meanwhile, the strikes continue in other locations of the theatre heralding the advance of troops and other elements of the mission.”
Dikwa recaptured
The recapture of the town of Dikwa took place at about 7am, yesterday, after Chadian troops cleared Gamboru Ngala, Kala Balge and several villages off Boko Haram insurgents, and proceeded to storm Dikwa which is less than 100 kilometres north-east of Maiduguri.
A military source said that the raid, which comprised military airstrikes backed up by ground troops, inflicted severe casualties on the terrorists which led to the recapture of the town now under control of the troops.
The source also revealed that during the encounter with the troops, two Chadian soldiers lost their lives, while the Amir (Commander) of the sect was arrested at the palace of the Shehu of Dikwa, which the troops suspected was turned to the base/headquarters of the insurgents.
“The terrorists had established themselves in Dikwa after taking over all the prominent buildings, including the Shehu’s palace, local government secretariat as well as the official and private residences of prominent people,” he said.
“Chadian soldiers took over Dikwa from Boko Haram after heavy fighting on Tuesday,” Bababura Diwa, who lives in the town, said by telephone from Fotokol, across the border in northern Cameroon.
Diwa said the Chadians came from Gamboru, which they previously recaptured, with heavy artillery power and overpowered a group of militants at Lomani village, 15 kilometres from Dikwa.
“When they came into Dikwa, there was intense fighting but at last, they subdued the Boko Haram fighters. They killed many of them, including Abu Ashshe, their commander who was notorious for seizing cattle in the area.
“I used the opportunity provided by the presence of the Chadian troops to leave the town. I was afraid to leave when Boko Haram took over the town for fear of being branded a traitor and killed.”
Diwa’s account was backed up by several other residents, who took advantage of the Chadian advance to flee the ancient town, which is near Boko Haram’s makeshift camps in the Sambisa Forest.
Jidda Saleh, another resident, said Chadian troops launched heavy aerial and ground attacks on the Kala-Balge area, particularly on Nduwu village, which he said was a “major Boko Haram stronghold”.
“The whole village was bombarded and it is obvious Boko Haram suffered heavy casualties from the aerial attack. Ground troops moved in later,” he added.
“Meleri, which has a huge Boko Haram concentration, was also bombed by Chadian military jets and then taken over by ground troops. By the time we left, we learnt the Chadian soldiers were on their way to Kushimori village where Boko Haram keeps the livestock they seized from people.
“They have kept thousands of livestock there. They sank boreholes and recruited people to rear the animals for them”.
Algoni Wal-Amire, another Kala-Balge resident, welcomed the offensive.
“Living under Boko Haram was like living in a minefield. You are always afraid your next step could be your last. I thank God I’m now safe from them,” he said.
We’ll rout out terrorists in the North East—Jonathan
Meanwhile, President Goodluck Jonathan, yesterday, assured Nigerians that the general elections would be conducted as scheduled by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, expressing optimism that the security challenges in the North eastern part of the country which was attributed as cause of the initial postponement of the election date, was being addressed.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony of four newly acquired warships by the Nigerian Navy, a landmark achievement in the last 32 years, President Jonathan stated that efforts were in top gear to return the north eastern part of the country to a level where insurgents would not affect the coming election.
Part of his administration’s effort to address activities of terrorists in the North east, he said, was the procurement of technical capacity to the Armed Forces, an effort he boasted was capable of routing out Boko Haram.
According to him: “I want to use this platform to promise my good country men and women that we will rout out Boko Haram. Our capacity has increased sufficiently and our officers and men are doing wonderfully well in the north. They are working hard day and night and I have directed that Nigerians should be briefed regularly. We have improved the technical capacity of our men; both the Army, Navy and Air Force and we are pleased with what is happening.
“And we must conduct our election as scheduled by INEC because within this period, we are convinced that we will return the north to a level where activities of extremists will not affect our election”, he stated.
He scored the Nigerian Navy high in the fight against maritime illegalities, disclosing that the volume of stolen crude oil in the nation’s water had drastically reduced compared to what obtained but, however, lamented that the only area of challenge was vandalism of gas pipelines in the swamps.
Nigeria cannot be defined by Boko Haram
President Jonathan also stated that Nigeria cannot be defined by the activities of Boko Haram. He spoke, yesterday evening, when he met with the Yoruba Elders Forum.
According to Jonathan, politicians must put the country’s unity and stability ahead of their political ambitions.
“No matter what we want to do, that is those of us who are aspiring to run this country or even at the state level, first and foremost you must have a country.
“If we don’t have a country there will be no office to hold; whether it is the office of the President or office of the Vice President or office of the minister or whatever office, there must be Nigeria first.
“My position is that let us all collectively defend and protect this country and that is why I always feel bad when people make statements that expose Nigeria as if it is the worst country on earth. We are not that bad.
“Yes, we have issues in this country. Even issues of security, like this Boko Haram, because we are managing a very delicate situation. Sometimes people define Nigeria by the Boko Haram. Nigeria cannot be defined based on Boko Haram alone. There is terror all over the world.
“My belief is that in the next three weeks or so if we don’t completely take over all our territories, we would have handled the Boko Haram to the extent that it will no longer be a problem to the elections that will come up.”
Earlier, the President of YCE, Gen. Adeyinka Adebayo (Ret) commended the President for the quality of leadership he is providing for the country.
8,700 joint task-force against Boko Haram
In a related development, the Niger Republic Military said, yesterday, that military chiefs from Nigeria, Chad, Cameroon, Benin and Niger would meet in N’Djamena next week to finalise strategy for the 8,700 task-force against Boko Haram.
The Director of Documentation and Military Intelligence of Niger’s Armed Forces, Col. Mahamane Sani, said in N’djamena that all the efforts were aimed at fighting the insurgence to a standstill, reports Reuters.
Sani said the forces are seeking to pin down Boko Haram within Nigeria’s borders ahead of a ground-and-air offensive by a regional task-force due to start from the end of next month.
“All we are doing right now is stopping Boko Haram from entering Niger. If they attack our positions we push them back a certain distance and Nigeria pushes from the other side to contain the situation,” he said.
“There are initiatives by our countries to make sure Boko Haram doesn’t get out of control, but we have a deadline of end-March to put the joint force into practice,” he said.
Sani said the force’s first commander would be a Nigerian and the position would then rotate annually among members.
He said air power would play a key role but ground troops would then be used to neutralise survivors in the wooded and mountainous terrain occupied by the jihadist group.
“Information on their location needs to come from human sources first, then you send technological resources to check it and you maintain observation on them until air strikes arrive,” he said.
Sani said the U.S. military would help with drone intelligence on fighters’ movements.
“This is no longer an issue of national security for Nigeria. It’s a question of regional and international security,” he said.
“If Nigeria implodes then the whole of Africa will feel it. So, we must all be on our feet,” he added.
He said the implementation of the force has been delayed by tensions between Nigeria and Cameroon over the right to pursue militants across the border into each other’s countries.
Sani said Niger and Chad already have agreements in place covering that with each other, including Nigeria. “Nigeria and Cameroon would be under pressure to iron out their differences,” he said.
He said Niger’s military had carried out air strikes against Boko Haram positions and used ground forces to mop up the survivors.
Sani however, denied a report that the Niger air force was responsible for an attack on Tuesday that killed re than 36 civilians at a funeral in the border village of Abadam in Niger.
He said it was being investigating.
