A document obtained by Online News portal has shown a list of Kaduna Islamic clerics who were allegedly rewarded for being supportive towards the President Jonathan campaign to be re-elected into office.
The supposed document also revealed how much each cleric received. The said document was obtained by Abusidique.
The document which was in form of a memo was signed by a particular Garzali Tanko, said to be the Director of Finance of the National Coalition for Jonathan/Sambo Presidency who listed 13 of the clerics to benefit from various sums ranging from N1,000,000 to N500,000.

Naij.com cannot independently verify the authenticity of the document in the picture.
The memo indicated that the payment is the second of such as the first phase was carried out in December.
The north is widely seen as the part of Nigeria which is seemingly out of the reach of Jonathan as it is believed that the North is behind the election of Gen. Muhammudu Buhari of the All Progressive congress as President of Nigeria.

Top 10 Jonathan's Electoral Promises

Few weeks are left before the presidential elections in Nigeria. And it is a period for candidates to assure Nigerians that they deserve this position.

Incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan is not an exclusion. Jonathan is in the limelight, as his administration has been both criticized and praised for performance in the office.
Still, what should Nigerians expect from from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and GEJ’s second term?  Specifically, what did President Jonathan promise in the course of his campaign?
1. To uncover failures of ex-leaders
Jonathan promises1
Just at the very start, at the inauguration of the Goodluck/Sambo 2015 Presidential Campaign Organisation (PCO), Jonathan vowed to expose the failings of Nigeria’s former leaders, and reinstate his administration’s commitment to the national interests.
“When we start campaigns, we will confront them with what we have done as a government, we will tell them what they did not do when they were heads of state. Some people want to still keep these children as shoe cleaners, we must lift them up. Our children should not be used as cannon folders. They should be allowed to move forward to be governors like us.”
2. To strengthen democracy
Jonathan promises2
During the widely publicized Lagos campaign, Jonathan promised to “dialogue” with Nigerians, thus insisting that he is focused on advancing democratic principles in Nigeria.
And to continue fighting corruption, which is called by critics as one of the worst sins of Jonathan’s administration.
“We are building institutions to fight corruption.”
3. To rely on the youth
Jonathan promises3
Same Lagos rally. Jonathan praises young Nigerians adding that they will take the country “to the moon”. According to the President, it is time to give way to the younger generation.
4. To keep Nigeria intact
Jonathan promises4
Mid January the National Security Adviser and Special Adviser to President Jonathan on inter-party affairs held a Sensitization Workshop on Non-Violence in Abuja.
GEJ dismissed one of the most popular pre-election assertions that Nigeria will break up after the polls.
Hardly a promise, but more like a non-arguable assurance that the people should not fear the historical event. At least, President Jonathan seems to be confident that the base created by his administration is steady to avoid cracks.
“Nigeria will not end.”
5. To ensure completion of the started projects
Jonathan promises5
Country’s leader paid an unscheduled visit to to the site of the second Niger bridge project at the Onitsha-Asaba axis. Jonathan explained that it is important for him to follow the progress with such big projects. Jonathan felt special responsibility after hearing rumours that things were not being done properly.
“I decided that I must visit the site of the second Niger Bridge to know the level of work there because some people have been saying all sorts of things, so I said I must visit the site before coming to pay courtesy call on His Majesty. Work is in progress on the project.”
6. To improve healthcare services
Jonathan promises6
It was the success of dealing with Ebola that added credibility to this promise. Nigeria became a good example of the African country that had managed to contain the deadly virus spread.
GEJ also attributed increase in life expectancy to the performance of his administration and said he would continue improving the level of living.
“And the government I head will not rest on its oars in improving all our health indices to make sure that Nigerians not only live longer lives, but that we live better quality lives.”
7. To bring Boko Haram to justice
Jonathan promises7
Speaking during his his New Year nationwide broadcast GEJ touched upon one of the most painful issues for the nation: insurgency, that has claimed thousands of lives.
“We will bring justice to the savage terrorists known as Boko Haram. They will be defeated.”
8. To rescue Chibok girls
Jonathan promises8
Not less painful matter of the school girls abduction during April 14, 2014, raid in Borno.
In the course of his presidential campaign in the state capital Maiduguri, Jonathan promised that the children would be soon reunited with their families.
“Whatever it takes to do this and to ensure the return of the Chibok girls we will do. “
9. To hand over office
Jonathan promises9
The Presidential Media Chat was held February 11, after the announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) about the elections postponement. The scandalous decision generated many reactions, with some alleging that Jonathan plotted to stay longer in the office.
However, the President insisted that he was not afraid to lose.
“If the elections are conducted and I lose, of course, another president would be sworn in.”
10. To develop railway links
Jonathan promises10
In one of his Facebook posts, President Jonathan disclosed his further plans, if he gets re-elected:
“Our plan, which we intend to bring to fruition with your support, is to link every commercial and administrative capital in Nigeria by rail thereby bringing our people closer. We must continue to strengthen the bond of our union.”
Only time will show who will emerge the winner of the forthcoming elections and if Goodluck Jonathan will fulfill his electoral promises, if chosen by Nigerians on March 28. Nigeria will decide, very soon!

Mrs Buhari Shares 1Thing We Dont Know About Her Husband

Speaking in interview with Thisday Style, Mrs. Aisha revealed one special thing about her husband which many never knew (till this moment).
She said; “one thing most people don’t know about my husband is his love for comic stories and his very humorous nature.
“Gen. Muhammadu Buhari is a very humorous person and enjoys listening to comic stories. Whenever he cracks jokes you will laugh till you shed tears. He also likes taking people by surprise” she added.
Mrs Buhari who is an esthetician by profession with spa houses in Kaduna and Abuja, says she has been married to her husband for 25 years now and that he is a caring and protective person
“My husband is a family-oriented person. He has very close relationships with his children, grandchild, and entire members of the family. He is very caring and protective of us” she said
According to Mrs Buhari, her husband is a very gender sensitive person who believes in women’s education.
“My husband believes in women’s education. He encouraged me to pursue my educational goals. I’m sure Nigerian women know the truth that he is a gender sensitive leader and will vote for him against all the political propaganda to discredit him. He insisted during his time as Head of State, that every council should have a female representative” she said.
Meanwhile, Mrs Buhari has also reacted to the rumours that suggests she is a foreigner.

2015: GEJ Asks Nigerians To Allow Him To Rule

A presidential candidate of the PDP, President Goodluck Jonathan, addressed Nigerians asking to support him during the upcoming general elections as he planned to continue getting Nigeria on its feet.
The President took to his official Facebook page to share his hopes for further support from Nigerians. According to Jonathan, he has only started to develop the country. However, he is ready to continue his programmes and lead Nigerian to its greatness.
Jonathan in a statement named the next successfully achieved goals: making Nigeria the largest producer and exporter of cement in Africa, increasing the capacity of the agricultural and real sectors, and providing more jobs though promoting economic growth.
Read Jonathan’s full statement below:
When this administration came into being on May 29th, 2011, Nigeria was a cement importing nation. However, with a determined implementation of the Backward Integration policy on cement, we are today a net exporter of the product as well as its largest producer on the African continent.
That was only a beginning. We are committed to re-enacting that feat with other products including rice, fertilizer and cassava for which we have since grown to be the world’s largest producer.
Steadily, we are increasing the capacity of the agricultural and real sectors through creative stimulus programmes and thoughtful execution of infrastructure projects that are connecting sources of raw materials to manufacturing zones and then to the markets.
By successfully privatizing our power generation and distribution infrastructure, we have attracted the type of funds and personnel that will raise the capacity of the power sector to power up our industries and mechanized farms.
Under my watch, I assure the local and international business community that the Federal Government places a high premium on promoting economic growth. We will continue to implement policies on as many products as Nigeria has a comparative advantage so that we provide jobs and opportunities for all our peoples. This we will do with the kind support of all Nigerians. GEJ.
It would be recalled that President Jonathan has increased production capacity and quality of cement produced in Nigeria. Reportedly, over $1.2 billion has been saved in foreign exchange demand through sufficiency in domestic cement production.

Despite Court Judgments Army Insists It Will Be Involved In Elections

In spite of the judgment of the Court of Appeal, Abuja, and the Federal High Court, Sokoto, which declared the deployment of soldiers for election duties as illegal, the Nigerian Army has said it will be involved in the 2015 general elections.
Brigadier General Koko Essien, according to Punch, made this known on February 19, Thursday, in Port Harcourt while speaking with newsmen.
General Essien who is also the 2 Brigade Commander/Sector 2 Joint Task Force, Operation Pulo Shield, warned political thugs to steer clear from the exercise as the Army will not fail to deal decisively with any one caught fomenting trouble.
The general said the military involvement was necessary to ensure that the 2015 election was conducted without hitch.
He pointed out that the military was strategising to ensure the elections were  peaceful, noting level volatility in Rivers State.
He said: ”We are seeing a trend whereby there is a lot of volatility in the security situation in Rivers State and we are doing everything and strategising to make sure things work in the state.”
He urged the people of the state to feel free to come out and exercise their franchise on the day of election, promising that adequate security measures would be put in place.
“We will be involved in the election to the extent that is allowed by law. We are having meeting with INEC and we are going to support INEC based on the requirement of the law. We are going to support the police based on the areas they (police) are lacking. If the law says we are not going to be at the polling booths, we will not be there.
“We have had incidences of political thuggery. Different political groups have carried out certain actions that are inimical to the smooth conduct of the upcoming elections. Besides that, there has been some increase in the level of kidnapping on our waterways and sea piracy of course.

“The security services and specifically, the military will not condone any act of political thuggery or any action by anybody in the state aimed at frustrating well-meaning citizens from going out to vote during the elections.
General Essien assured that the military will do everything within our means to ensure that people are safe and vote without intimidation.
Several politicians are opposed to the use of the military for election duties. The All Progressives Congress (APC) in a letter dated February 16 to President Goodluck Jonathan and the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega, notified them to obey the court judgment barring the involvement of military personnel in the forthcoming general elections.

Meet The 5 Worst Dressed Actresses In Nollywood

In this hilarious but factual list of 5 worst dressed actresses in the Nigerian movie industry, Juliet Gbemudu of 360 Nobs bares her mind on the fashion sense of these Genevieve and Rita Dominc wannabes.
Enjoy the read:

1. MERCY JOHNSON
Each time I see a headline with Mercy Johnson’s name I get discouraged to read the article because I don’t want to spoil my day with arguments of how awful her outfit choices are. It seems to me as though she never looks at the mirror after putting together an appalling  outfit.
I totally understand that whatever you wear, your talent is still going to take you to the top but you can’t be at the top and still look this horrible because this one fact will be used against you darling. The only person she seems to be more fashionable than is her daughter.
Mercy Johnson please have MERCY on our sights and hire a professional stylist biko

2. HALIMA ABUBAKAR
I am a fan of your real talent but certainly not a fan of your horrible style. I personally think a special style chart should be created to help you out with how best to look. We know you are curvy, but sometimes you need to pick a perfect size that fits well instead of the undersized clothes you choose to rely on to enhance your curves.
Another thing I noticed is you try applying a lot of makeup to take the attention away from your awful outfit but in the end, you complicate matters for yourself because it becomes Awful outfit + Outlandish makeup. We need a CHANGE in this new year pleaseeeee

3. CHIKA IKE
Gossip says that Chika Ike is a good example of money can’t buy style but we don’t pay attention to gossips so…
However, what explanation can one give for shopping in some of the best boutiques and you still can’t look stylish? The perfect answer is CHIKA IKE. I still can’t believe she has been in Lagos in the midst of stylish actors like Genevieve Nnaji, Omotola Jalade and still haven’t learnt a thing or two from them.
A few days ago a picture of this actress hit the internet wearing denim on denim but in a very sad way. It was a total misrepresentation of the denim trend. The jacket was undersized and whoever advised her to button the first and last button is worse than an Edo witch.

4. ANNIE IDIBIA
Most people have concluded that they can’t be bothered about Annie’s style but I still have hope for better days ahead. Annie’s outfit choices spell out ratchet more often than not and i  wonder if she is really paying someone to dress her up that way or she’s trying too hard to remain in the game or impress someone or look relevant- which is it? Because whichever, she is trying too hard and getting it all wrong.

5. INI EDO
I will rather Ini Edo spends more money on getting a stylist than on cars. Because you can’t be riding a classy car and still look shabby. There is just  this sadness i feel in the deepest part of my heart when i see someone dressing below expectation and I would ordinarily expect that Ini Edo would team up a good style with luxurious cars, but she obviously doesn’t share the same view.
A lot of people might pretend to be cool with your style but I don’t ever want to get judged for not saying this; Employ a new stylist to help you out with your wardrobe choices, that’s the best you can do to save our sights.

We completely agree with Juliet’s list. my advise to these ladies is to secure the services of either Ezinne Chinkata or Toyin Lawani, so they she can school them in the art of dressing. Enough said!

Boko Haram Allegedly Harvests And Sells Human Organs

Nigeria’s militant Boko Haram sect supposedly harvests human organs and sells to the West, according to a report by Newswire NG.

Global Prolife Alliance Council on Health and Society is supposing that Boko Haram insurgents are also in the business of harvesting human organs just like ISIS (Islamic State of Iraque and Syria) are said to have been doing.
The United Nations is investigating the accusations that ISIS — already measured the wealthiest terrorist group on record — may be harvesting organs from killed citizens and gaining money by trading the body parts, officials said Wednesday.
Dr Philip Njemanze in a letter to NewsWire says a better look at the pictures from the clashes carried out so far displays a shape of injury of the victims with a right or left flank cut and bleeding. Some stayed alive.
According to another story also attached is that Boko Haram kills 3 doctors, decapitates one and 25 physicians killed thus far.
Specialists at the Global Prolife Alliance (GPA) inspected other photos and others released thus far by JTF and others. It shows a clear pattern of central chest, or abdominal injury or flank injuries.
These are operation injuries related to organ harvesting of heart, kidneys, Liver and other internal organs.
The Boko Haram will have full access to harvesting organs of the civilians. The kidnapping of the Chibok Girls and the eye-witness accounts by female victims who were prisoners indicate that they were wholly dishonored and drugged which shows that they may have been used for harvesting ovarian eggs after injections with hormonal drugs.
The Chibok Girls kidnapping and others must now be seen in another point of view that the women are being used by for human ovarian egg pouching.
The GPA has long preserved that the Boko Haram armed force were hired by Biotechnology companies and the International Organ and Egg Trafficking Cartel.
The recent events have confirmed our worst fears that it is already on-going.
Meanwhile, the prospects for non-implementation will make the battlefield harvesting of organs and human ovarian eggs a long-term goal.

Gunmen Invade INEC Office

Unknown gunmen have reportedly broken into the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Delta state.

The gunmen carted away 6,000 permanent voters cards (PVCs) and registers from the office located at Oghara, Ethiope West Local Government Area of the state, Vanguard reports.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Delta Police Command, DSP Celestina Kalu said the stolen PVCs had been recovered.
She said: “The stolen PVCs have been recovered and a total of seven thousand three hundred and sixty five (7,365) were seen.”
According to her, three of the security guards, Aherebe Godday, Omajemite Justice and Oyubu Ejiro were arrested for interrogation.

Similarly, detectives in a follow-up investigation arrested one Lucky Aputu ’m’, aged 46yrs of Oji Aputu compound, Onyobulu inland market Road, Oghara and recovered one of the stolen INEC registers from him,” she added.
Celestina stated that the police had begun investigation into the matter and efforts are on to ensure that all those involved in the crime are brought to justice.
The PVCs have since been handed over to INEC.

Just recently, a chieftain of the ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) was allegedly found with 500 permanent voter cards (PVCs) at his residence in Benin, Edo state.
About three weeks ago, no fewer than 3,366 Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) were snatched by suspected hoodlums in Izzi and Ikwo local government areas of Ebonyi State.

Buhari Went To London To Meet Members Of Chatam House

The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd.), left Abuja on February 19 to visit key members of the Royal Institute of International Affair, Chatham House, in London, the United Kingdom.
According to a statement signed by the  spokesman of APC Presidential Campaign Organisation, Mallam Garba Shehu, Buhari is expected to meet with members of the British political establishment and interact with some global institutions with stakeholder interest in the affairs of Nigeria.
The organisation in the statement said that it has evidence that a top management staff of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) is behind the hate campaigns against Buhari and his family aired in the recent documentary by African Independent Television and Nigeria Television Authority.
Mr. Shehu further said the campaign office has confirmed that the agency was the sponsor of all the dirty campaigns against the APC presidential candidate on AIT, NTA and several other media platforms. Details on the Nation.

Boko Haram Story Will Be Ended In 2 Weeks - Jonathan

The presidential candidate of the PDP, President Goodluck Jonathan, said the Boko Haram insurgency will change in two weeks’ time. He made this statement at the meeting with members of the Yoruba Council of Elders at the State House, Marina, Lagos.

President Jonathan said the nation had acquired equipment to battle Boko Haram and in two-three weeks there wouldn’t be any threat to the forthcoming general elections.
According to him, Nigeria could not be defined by the Boko Haram insurgency, saying there was terror all over the world.
“Sometimes, people define Nigeria by the Boko Haram. Nigeria cannot be defined based on Boko Haram alone. There is terror all over the world. We’ve unfair share of the terror, but luckily, with what is happening now, I tell people that in the next two to three weeks, this story will change because we’ve got the equipment that we can withstand the excesses of Boko Haram.
“That is why these few days, you will see that the movement, we don’t want to say much. It’s going on gradually. My belief is that in the next three weeks or so, if we don’t completely take over all our territories, we would’ve handled Boko Haram to the extent that it’ll no longer be a problem to the elections that will come up,” he said.
Moreover, the President took to his Facebook to share some photos from the meeting and express his gratitude.
“It was a great honour and pleasure to receive members of the Yoruba Council of Elders who visited me today at the State House, Marina, Lagos. The wisdom from our elders is invaluable. I thank the elders for their visit and may God bless Nigeria. GEJ,” he wrote on his Facebook.
President, Yoruba Council of Elders (YCE), Gen. Adeyinka Adebayo (rtd), General Secretary YCE, Mr. Idowu Shofolahan; PDP National chairman, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu and others were present at the meeting.
The President was in Lagos to commission four Nigerian Navy warships at the Naval Dockyard Limited, Victoria Island.
It would be recalled that yesterday, February 18, Boko Haram has released a new video vowing to disrupt the 2015 general elections at all costs.

2015 Budget Is Revealed :The Figures You Mustn't Know

Since submitting the 2015 Budget to the National Assembly in November 2014, Nigeria’s Budget office, although required by law to publish the budget details have failed to do so, preferring to keep it in secret…
Details of the budget are not available to Nigerians, amid an unusually high expectation of the budget’s specifics as the government struggles to minimize the impact of slumping oil price. Many Nigerians are eager to see in clear details how the government has responded.
The Premium Times has stated that they have budget data and Naij has prepared these infographics of 2015 Budget.
According to the estimates, the total spendings are NGN4 357 959 999 999
It should be recalled that President Goodluck Jonathan refused to present the 2015 budget proposal to the National Assembly instead assigned the presentation to the Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.

Political parties using Jonathan's face in campaigns warned by PDP

Owerri - The Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) in Imo has given other political parties a seven-day ultimatum to stop using President Goodluck Jonathan’s photograph on their campaign posters and bill boards.
The Chairman, PDP Elders Committee in Imo, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, gave the ultimatum at the end of the party’s leaders meeting in Owerri on Thursday.
He decried what he described as ‘’indiscriminate use of the picture of President Jonathan on posters and billboards’’ by candidates of other political parties.
Iwuanyanwu said that it was fraudulent to put the president’s photograph in a poster alongside a candidate who is not a member of PDP.
He said that the ultimatum was for the affected political parties and their candidates to remove all posters bearing the image of Jonathan.
The committee’s chairman advised political parties to feature only their candidates on posters and not to join them with another party’s candidate.

He, however, said the PDP welcomed the decision of other political parties to adopt Jonathan as their presidential candidate but noted that it was wrong to put the president’s picture in their posters.
"It is clumsy and a political mix-up for a candidate vying for the governorship, House of Assembly, Senate or House of Representatives seat on the platform of another party to put the photograph of PDP presidential candidate in his or her poster.
"Those that have no presidential candidate should come out and let the world know that their party is unable to field a presidential candidate,’’ he said.
Iwuanyanwu explained that the party was united and had been working very hard to deliver all its candidates in the forth coming elections.
He called on the party chairman in the state to take disciplinary action against those involved in anti-party activities.
"I am not happy with the attitude of some of our party members. If you believe in a party you must also believe in the party’s decision,” he said.
Iwuanyanwu commended security agencies and urged them to fish out sponsors of Boko Haram.

FG Bans Foreign Trips & Training For Civil Servants

THE Federal Government has banned all international travels, as well as foreign training for civil servants with immediate effect, until further notice.

This followed the declining crude oil price in the global market that has impacted negatively on the Nigerian economy.

Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Danladi Kifasi, issued the embargo in a circular entitled: “Restrictions on Foreign Trainings and International Travels by Public Servants,” to all ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs).

He said it had become imperative to introduce a number of cost-saving measures, following the recent development in the international oil market that had affected the revenue stream of government.

Kifasi particularly listed one of the measures instituted by government in salvaging the situation as the ban on foreign trainings and international travels by public servants in all ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs), including all parastatals beginning from January.

A statement signed by the Assistant Director, Media Relations, said the Head of Service, who used the circular to outline some guidelines to be applied before any public officer shall travel out of the country on government’s expense, explained that “proposals for participation or attendance of international conferences, seminars, workshops, study tours, trainings, presentations of papers, negotiating/signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) abroad at government’s expense, shall no longer be allowed except those that are fully funded by sponsoring/invitation organisations.”

The circular further warned that no ministry, extra-ministerial office, department, agency or parastatal shall send staff outside Nigeria for training at government’s expense whether or not that agency draws funds from the Federal Government budget or meets its financial needs from revenue generated by itself.

It noted that public servants invited for foreign trainings/study tour, conferences by any organisation, government or other bilateral/multilateral organisation would be allowed to travel provided that no travel cost, Estercode application or any other cost on government was involved.

Kifasi, however, maintained that local training would continue, adding that where necessary, foreign experts might be invited to conduct training for which there were no local experts with the knowledge or ability to do such.

Breaking!!! 158 Kidnapped Victims Reunite With Families In Yobe

A total of 158 Women and children abducted by Boko Haram insurgents from Katarko village in Yobe have been reunited with their families in Damaturu, Yobe. The victims were released by the sect members after three weeks of captivity. Alhaji Ahmed Goniri, the state Commissioner for Justice and Chairman of the State Committee on Rehabilitation of Victims of Insurgency, said this while addressing newsmen in Damaturu on Thursday.

“The victims were screened by security operatives to authenticate their status while government provided them with psychological therapy to ease their trauma,” Goniri said.

NAN reports that the victims were released by the insurgents three weeks ago but remained in custody of security agencies to undergo screening to ensure that they were indeed captives. Alhaji Abdurahman Dauda, a displaced person, said his wife and six girls were released by the insurgents.

“Two of my boys are still in their custody but, I am of high spirit that they will soon be rescued,” he said. One of the victims who preferred to remain anonymous, said’ “to be fair to the insurgents, they did not rape or abused us, they simply asked those who were not interested in their religion to leave, and they eventually released us”.

Meanwhile, the state government has provided N50,000, two bags of rice, sugar, noodles and wrapper to each of the 15 widows among the victims, while 47 other women received N30,000 each and same quantity of rice, sugar, noodles and wrapper. Presenting the assistance, Goniri said government commiserated with the families of the victims and provided the relief materials to help them to resettle.

He said 20 boys were still in custody of the insurgents and expressed hope that the renewed operation against the insurgents would rescue them from their captors.

APC Has Won The Elections, Except PDP Rigs On The Other Side – Tinubu

The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu yesterday declared that the ruling People’s Democratic Party can’t rig out its Presidential Candidate, Muhammadu Buhari this time while expressing his confidence of his party’s victory in next general elections.

Asiwaju stated this while speaking at a stakeholders meeting of Lagos APC insisted that May 29 remains sacrosanct, stressing that the ‘APC has won the elections, except they rig on the other side.’

He said no amount of intimidation and treats from the presidency and the PDP will shake APC ahead of the elections.

“We are ready for the elections. They think they are wise by postponing the elections, but they are not. APC has won this election except they rig on the other side. All their intimidation will amount to nothing during the elections. They tried to intimidate us during last year Osun State governorship election but they failed. We will be on the street waiting for them. Since they brought soldiers to my house, I have been sleeping very well because I am not afraid of them.

“We have been working hard in Abuja. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) must use the card readers whether they like it. PDP doesn’t want it but we are going to resist their plan. They cannot rig us out. March 28 is sacrosanct but before then we are going to ensure we get highest of our voters Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs).

“This is the time for unity and understanding. Nigeria is going through challenges and we want to change Nigeria for the interest of the masses. So, this is the time for change. We should also tell our Igbo brothers that we are one for the same economy. The exchange rate rise from N95 to N210 in Jonathan’s hands and he will continue to give us excuses. We must change him.”

Tinubu appealed to the party members to canvass for registered voters in their neighbourhood to collect their PVCs to increase the number of voters in the state.

2015 Elections: Senate satisfied with INEC’s readiness, card reader

senate
The Senate on Wednesday expressed confidence on the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) readiness to conduct free, fair and credible elections. The Senate President, David Mark, disclosed this when the Chairman of INEC, Prof. Attahiru Jega, briefed the house and demonstrated how the card reader would be used during plenary. Mark, who expressed satisfaction at the demonstration of the card reader and the level of preparedness of INEC, said that the session was beneficial. “We have so much confidence that you will organise free, fair and credible elections; indeed all of us who are standing for election in the Senate will like to come back. “We will like to win our election but we want to win in free, fair and credible elections. I can say that nobody seated here wants to come back through the back door. “It is for us to assist you to conduct free, fair and credible elections and whatever we can do between now and the date you have chosen for us to go for the elections, we will not hesitate to do. “I believe that you have benefitted from this interaction; we have also benefitted. “A number of issues have been raised and they are pointers to the way you will like to look at the administrative and technical issues that have also been raised.’’ Mark urged all senators to utilise the commission’s email address to report any problems they might be experiencing in their constituencies relating to the elections. Sen. Bukola Saraki (APC-Kwara) in an interview after the session, said he was satisfied with the card reader demonstration on the floor of the Senate. He said “I am very satisfied with the working of the card reader; it has shown that it does work. “I think everybody will be more convinced that for this election, we will be using the card reader.’’ Sen. Ita Enang (PDP-Akwa Ibom) also expressed satisfaction with the demonstration but expressed concern if the card reader was unable to accredit all voters in polling units with high number of voters. Earlier, the INEC team demonstrated the use of the card reader using PVCs of some senators present. - See more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/02/2015-elections-senate-satisfied-with-inecs-readiness-card-reader/#sthash.uAgE3taR.dpuf

APC writes Jonathan, Jega on using military for elections

ABUJA-Determined to make the federal government comply with court judgment on elections, the All Progressives Congress yesterday wrote a letter to President Goodluck Jonathan and the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Professor Attahiru Jega asking him to give heed to the judgment barring the involvement of soldiers in elections.

The letter, dated February 16, 2015 emanated from the  Director, Legal Services of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Chukwuma-Machukwu Ume (SAN)
Though it was addressed to Jega, copies of the letter were also made available to President Jonathan, the National Security Adviser, the Chief of Defence Staff, the Chief of Army Staff, Chief of Naval Staff, Chief of Air Staff and the National Chairmen of the APC and the Peoples Democratic Party.
APC in the letter called the attention of the federal government to a judgment delivered on January 29, 2015 by Justice R.M. Aikawa of the Federal High Court, Sokoto and another by the Court of Appeal, Abuja, on February 16, 2015 which overruled the use of military in elections.
The letter read in parts, “I am sure all well-meaning Nigerians share your deep seated concern on the militarisation of our elections.
“It is therefore imperative your good office and commission ensure, henceforth, and until there is an enabling Act of the National Assembly, the court orders are obeyed and armed forces personnel are never again deployed in any form of security supervision of our elections.”
Justice Aikawa of the Federal High Court in his judgment on the suit marked: FHC/S/CS/29/2014 among others, restrained the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and INEC “from engaging the service of the Nigerian armed forces in the security supervision of elections in any manner whatsoever in any part of Nigeria, without the Act of the National Assembly.”
Justice Abdul Aboki, in his lead judgment in the Ekiti State Governorship Election appeal on February 16, held that “even the President of Nigeria has no powers to call on the Nigerian armed forces and to unleash them on peaceful citizens, who are exercising their franchise to elect their leaders.
“Whoever unleashed soldiers on Ekiti State, disturbed the peace of the election on June 21, 2014; acted in flagrant breach of the constitution and flouted the provisions of the Electoral Act, which required an enabling environment by civil authorities in the conduct of elections.”

Naira to exchange at N197/$

LAGOS — The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, yesterday, in a bid to salvage the Naira from speculators scrapped the official window where it sells dollar to end users through banks twice a week.
naira-Dollar
The Naira will now be sold at the ruling inter-bank market rate indicating an implicit devaluation of the currency. The Naira yesterday at the inter-bank market sold for N197 to the dollar.
Financial Market Dealers Quote, FMDQ, a group comprising Nigeria’s main commercial banks and the central bank, said commercial banks have also been banned from re-selling CBN dollars to other banks, another attempt to end speculation in the naira.
The CBN had at the liberalization of the economy opened the Whole Sale Dutch Auction but later replaced it with the Retail Dutch Auction System where banks bid for foreign exchange on behalf of their customers.

Scrapping its window of direct sale of foreign exchange
The CBN in scrapping its window of direct sale of foreign exchange to end users said all foreign exchange needs are to be sourced from the inter-bank market whose rate is N197 to a dollar.
This implies that Nigerians who need foreign exchange will now approach their banks and buy at the ruling rate. There had been about three different markets for purchasing foreign currency in the country.
These are the CBN window called the Retail Dutch Auction System, where the CBN sell dollars to end users twice a week at a much cheaper rate, the inter-bank where banks sell foreign exchange independently sourced by them at a higher rate, the bureau de change which margin is slightly higher than that of CBN, and the open market where small retailers sell forex on the streets at a more higher rate.
The existence of several markets has always given the impression that the Naira is over valued and some form of subsidy where those who buy from CBN sold at higher rate at the inter-bank market called round tripping.
The apex bank in a statement signed by its Director of Communication, Mr Ibrahim Mu’azu, yesterday said: “The managed float exchange rate regime, which the bank had adopted following the liberalisation of the foreign exchange market, has for the most part been successful in ensuring exchange rate stability in line with its mandate.
“In recent times, however, with the sharp decline in global oil prices and the resultant fall in the country’s foreign exchange earnings, the bank has observed a widening margin between the rates in the inter-bank and the RDAS window, thus engendering undesirable practices including round-tripping, speculative demand, rent-seeking, spurious demand, and inefficient use of scarce foreign exchange resources by economic agents.
“This has continued to put pressure on the nation’s foreign exchange reserves with no visible economic benefits to the productive sector of the economy and the general public.
“In view of the foregoing, it has become imperative that appropriate actions be taken to avert the emergence of a multiple exchange rate regime and preserve the country’s foreign exchange reserves.

RDAS/WDAS closed
“Consequently, we wish to inform all authorized dealers and the general public that, with effect from the date of this press release, the Retail Dutch Auction System (RDAS/WDAS) foreign exchange window at the CBN is hereby closed. Henceforth, all demand for foreign exchange should be channelled to the Interbank Foreign Exchange Market. For the avoidance of doubt, all authorized dealers and the general public should note that the CBN will continue to intervene in the inter-bank foreign exchange market to meet genuine/legitimate demands.
Nigeria’s foreign exchange reserves, which was $5.4 billion in 1999, rose to an overwhelming level of $51.3 billion at end of 2007 and further to $53.0 billion in 2008, but owing to the crash in the international price of crude oil in 2008 and the aftermath of the global financial crisis, the reserve declined to $42.4 billion in 2009 further declined from $38.138 billion at the end of April 2014 to $33.04 billion in February 2015.
Reactions
Reacting to the development, market operators welcomed the CBN action, saying it is long over due.
Mr. Bismarck Rewane, Managing Director/Chief Executive, Financial Derivative Company Limited said: “This means that the Naira is now priced at its fair value. It is one of the best moves the CBN has made in terms of stopping this nonsense that is going on at RDAS or no RDAS. It is now time to price the market at its fair value and take away all the middlemen and round tripping.
“So this is the true value of the currency, the speculators are out of business. Hitherto, products were not priced at RDAS window. For example airline tickets have been priced at N202 per dollar for the past six weeks. So what are we talking about? As a matter of fact, because the price is now high the demand will reduce and the currency will now have some respite.
Speaking for the organized private sector, Director General, Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr Muda Yusuf said: “The closure of the RDAS foreign exchange window has the following implications: It will result in the escalation of production costs for firms that had access to this forex window. Such firms will experience cost increases of up to 20 per cent.
“This will also impact on sales performance, profit margins and ultimately capacity utilization of manufacturing firms. Import duty and other port charges which are computed as a percentage of import costs will also increase. This implies additional pressure on operating costs for erstwhile beneficiaries of the CBN RDAS forex window. Firms funding requirements (in naira) will increase as firms will need to source more funds in the banks to fund their forex needs.
On his part, Razia Khan, Managing Director, Head, Macro Global Research, Standard Bank said: “With Nigeria foreign reserves under pressure, and amid growing concern that a wide RDAS-inter-bank spread would encourage ‘round-tripping’, the CBN will now stop RDAS auctions, effectively discontinuing its foreign exchange subsidy for certain categories of demand. This is positive news, and should help create more transparency in the Nigerian market. However, with oil prices currently at levels where foreign reserves will be difficult to replenish, the CBN’s appetite for continued support of the inter-bank foreign exchange rate will be closely monitored.
Kunle Ezun, a currency analyst said: “This is implicit devaluation. There won’t be any change in the inter-bank market rate because since last week, this is what the CBN has been doing. Also this is what the market actually advised them to do. They advised the CBN, you can’t keep subsidising the naira in RDAS, why don’t you put everybody on the same platform.”

Card reader constitutional, says INEC

Prof. Attahiru Jega, Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has insisted that only card readers would be used for accreditation of voters for the general elections. Jega made this known while briefing the Senate on Wednesday in Abuja on INEC’s preparation for the elections. He said that the use of the cards was constitutional, insisting that the commission would not revert to manual accreditation of voters during the elections. He assured that if any card reader developed problem, it would be replaced. Jega told the senators that the commission would not use Temporary Voter Cards (TVCs) for election under any condition as being canvassed in some quarters. He stated that the use of the card reader would not contravene any section of the Electoral Act, 2010 as amended. According to him, the use of PVCs and the card reader for the conduct of the elections, we believe, is in accord with the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2010 as amended. “They were introduced also, pursuant to the powers granted to the commission by the 1999 Constitution (as amended). ‘’INEC is empowered by Section 16(4) of the Electoral Act, 2010 to and I quote: ‘wherever it considers it necessary, replace any voter card for the time being’. “An election is said to be validly conducted if it meets certain basic requirements, including accreditation of voters.“The use of the card reader for the purpose of accreditation of voters is one of the innovations introduced by the commission to improve the credibility of the electoral process. “It is not offensive to the Electoral Act or to the Constitution. It adds value to the desires of Nigerians to have a credible election in line with international best practice,” he said. The INEC chairman clarified that the use of the card reader would not amount to electronic voting, explaining that though Section 52 of the Electoral Act prohibits the use of electronic voting, the card reader was not a voting machine. According to him, the card reader is only an electronic machine introduced to improve the integrity of the voting process. He stressed that INEC didn’t see the need for an amendment of the Electoral Act to accommodate the use of card readers. Jega said that for the purposes of ensuring that the electoral process was credible, the card reader would be used in the verification of voters. “In the likely event that a card reader fails, we have enough spares to deploy before the end of the accreditation at 1 p.m. “If we cannot replace before the end of accreditation, then the election in that particular point will be postponed to the following day when a new card reader will be provided. “If you say, if a card reader fails we go back to manual voting, we are worried that everywhere we will revert to manual accreditation because there are many people who don’t want card readers to be used. “The likelihood of card reader failing is slim; we had solid legal advice and we do not believe it violates legal provisions. “It is not electronic voting, it is verification. There is a difference between voting and the voting process. “Anybody can go to court on anything but we believe we have not done anything wrong,” he stated. Jega disclosed that the commission hoped to utilize the six-week election date extension period to carry out voter education and public enlightenment. He also pointed out that so far, the commission had tested the card readers for durability and functionality and was satisfied with the results. While enumerating the advantages of the card reader, he said that it would increase the credibility of the election process. “Once the card reader is configured, it can only read PVCs issued by INEC at the polling unit that it has been configured for.“It reads the embedded chip card not the barcode; it enables authentication of the identity of the voter by matching his or her finger print with that code on the chip of the card. “It keeps a tally of all cards read and all cards verified or authenticated with all their details, including the time when this was done,’’ he said. “This information can be sent to a central server using an SMS; the stored information on the server will enable INEC to audit results from polling units. “It will as well as do arrangement of statistical analysis of the demographics of voting, something INEC has never been able to do effectively. “The ward collation officer can use this information to audit polling unit result sheets and to determine whether accreditation figures have been altered, a common feature of electoral fraud in our jurisdiction,” Jega added. He disclosed that the PVCs were made to last for more than 10 years, and as such, could be used for the 2019 elections. - See more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/02/card-reader-constitutional-says-inec/#sthash.e3QGipsK.dpuf

Paris Metro racist abuse victim calls for Chelsea fans' punishment

The man prevented from boarding a Paris Metro train by Chelsea football fans chanting racist slogans has called for them to be punished.

The 33-year-old, named as Souleymane S, told France's Le Parisien: "These people, these English fans... should be locked up."

A video shows him trying to get on a Metro carriage but being pushed off.

A group of people can be heard singing: "We're racist, we're racist and that's the way we like it."

The footage was obtained by the Guardian, which reported that the incident happened at Richelieu-Drouot station in the centre of the French capital on Tuesday ahead of a Champions League match.
English fans
In the interview with Le Parisien, Souleymane S said he had not been particularly surprised by the abuse because he "lives with racism".

The father of three, a French-Mauritanian born in Paris, said he had not understood what the fans were saying but that he knew he was being targeted because of the colour of his skin.

Paul Nolan told Radio 4's Today programme it was a "threatening" scene

Transport officers arrived but only wanted to make sure there was not a fight taking place.

He said he had no idea he was being filmed, and had not told anyone about the incident.

"What could I tell my children? That daddy was shoved around on the Metro because he is black?

"That would be pointless."

But he said that now the incident had emerged publicly he had the confidence to file a police complaint.

"These people, these English fans, need to be found and punished, and should be locked up," he added.

"What happened should not go unpunished."
Hate speech
UK Prime Minister David Cameron said the incident appeared to be "extremely disturbing and very worrying".

It follows long-standing controversy over racism in football generally.

Although the episode is believed to have involved British fans, the comments made by Souleymane S also come amid disquiet over increasing intolerance in France.

Publishing a report on Tuesday, Nils Muiznieks, the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights, said France needed to take "urgent" action to combat abuse.

"Despite advances in legislation and measures to combat intolerance and racism, discrimination and hate speech not only persist in France but are on the rise," he said.

Richelieu Drouot station

London's Metropolitan Police has said it is taking the Paris Metro incident "very seriously".

In a statement it said it would assist the French authorities to identify the people involved and support them in any action they chose to take.

Chelsea FC said it would help police, and any fans involved faced a ban.

A spokesman for the club said the fans' actions had "no place in football or society".

British expatriate Paul Nolan, who filmed the incident on his phone, told the BBC it was an "ugly scene" and "very aggressive".

Speaking on Radio 4's Today programme he said he could hear mentions of World War Two as well as the racist chanting.

One voice is heard on the video singing: "Chelsea, Chelsea, Chelsea."

How To Stop Snoring

What do callers to our helpline want to know when they ring? HOW CAN I STOP SNORING.
Of course, the most important thing to discover is what is causing the snoring. Without an idea in this direction, a solution to the problem will be illusive.

Collar Size Of 16 ½"

The first thing to consider is body fat. Obese people are very likely to snore. Excess body fat seems to be more of a problem for men than for women. Fat is deposited around the body differently in men to women. Men tend to get fat around their necks and waists, whereas women seem to put in on around their thighs. It is fat around the throat that gives the problem; it tends to squash the throat in leaving less room to breathe. A middle aged man whose collar size is 16 ½" or above is predisposed to snoring. It is worthwhile considering if snoring was a problem before any recent weight gain or if there has been a need to buy larger shirts recently! Weight reduction by moderating the diet and increased exercise is an extremely efficient method for the treatment of snoring in those who are overweight. Even if you are only marginally overweight we would recommend that an exercise and diet programme be initiated. Although obesity may not be the only cause of the snoring, it may well have an important influence which when removed will enable other forms of treatment to be effective.
Smokers are twice as likely to snore as non-smokers. It follows that those who are able to quit the habit will be in a better position regarding their snoring. It may be the only cause in which case what a rewarding experience it will be. Stopping snoring and smoking in one will be a relief to the snorers/smokers and their families. Acupuncture and hypnosis are both good therapies for kicking the habit. Quitline's 0800 002200 is a telephone number that will come in handy if you really want to give up smoking. Good luck. It is worth mentioning that it is the smoke that irritates the nasal mucosa that causes the problem for snorers. Passive smoking may therefore be something to take into account particularly if you find yourself in a smoky environment like a pub before you go to bed.

Mouth Open?

Do you snore with your mouth open? We were designed to breathe in through our noses so that the air is filtered, warmed and humidified before entering the lungs. When we breathe through the nose the air passes over the curved part of the soft palate in a gentle flow into the throat without creating unnecessary turbulence. When we breathe through the mouth however, the air hits the back of the throat head on and can create enormous vibrations in this soft tissue. The pharynx, the medical term for the throat, which extends from the level of the roof of the mouth to the epiglottis (Adam's apple), is a very flexible and muscular tube. It needs this flexibility because it must satisfy two functions, breathing and swallowing. It is the latter function that needs the flexibility because we swallow by a process called peristalsis, a series of muscular contractions that force the food down the throat and into the oesophagus. When relaxed the pharynx is not very large. As we fall asleep our muscle tone decreases and most of the muscles in our bodies relax completely. The throat is no exception. You can see that in this state any turbulence in the inspired air will cause a vibration.
If breathing though the mouth during sleep is usual, and you have at least one clear nasal airway, a device to prevent oral breathing may be the answer. Snore Guard is such a product.

Tongue Base

Some snorers' noise emanates from the base of the tongue where the throat may be particularly restricted. This is especially likely in those whose lower jaw is not properly formed. People with 'weak chins' or retrognathia often snore. Typically, they will have an unusual bite, that is, their lower teeth are way behind their upper teeth when they close their mouths. In this situation, a device worn in the mouth that brings the lower jaw (the mandible) forward may be the solution. Try this simple test: make a snoring noise with the mouth closed. Then try to make the same noise whilst biting lightly on your tongue protruding from the mouth and the lips sealed around it. If you cannot snore with your tongue forward a Tomed SomnoGuard would be suitable. The result of using such a device will be a semi permanent or permanent advancement of the lower jaw, and a change in the way the teeth meet together. You may need to learn to chew your food in a different way. Nevertheless, we believe that these devices have a valuable role in the treatment of snoring in a large number of cases.
You can't use Snore Guard or Tomed SomnoGuard if you cannot breathe through your nose. If you have nasal congestion preventing clear breathing through both nostrils this can be the cause of the snoring problem. Are you an allergic person? Do you suffer from hay fever, for example? If yes, you may suffer an allergic reaction to house dust mites. These are found in their millions in every old pillow and when sleeping our noses simply suck up the allergen from the pillow. Try a brand new synthetically filled pillow. If your snoring abates for a few days then returns, you may have hit upon the cause, in which case 'Intervent' pillow case liners, etc. may be the answer. You can also try, with the advice of your pharmacist, antihistamine tablets. If these work then it may indicate an allergy. Do not continue with antihistamine use for long. You must find out what you are allergic to and avoid contact. Decongestant nasal sprays can be effective too. Try an Oxymetazoline hydrochloride spray like Boots own, but talk to the chemist first. Be sure to discontinue use after 5 days even if you have found them to successfully stop your snoring. Long term use of such powerful sprays can be counterproductive and dangerous. They can actually increase congestion by a rebound effect if used for too long. We have in stock a homeopathic nasal spray called Homeoronfnyl and a herbal spray that we are trialing. Y-Snore nose drops are a homeopathic formulation and Y-Snore spray contains the same active ingredient in a normal saline solution. All our nasal sprays and drops are safe for long term use. You will also find that steam inhalations are of great benefit. This simple traditional remedy is enormously effective, but it is rather inconvenient needing one session each night and each morning for 10 minutes or so, for at least a fortnight. The good news is that it costs nothing and works really well.
Nasal dilators can be used to great effect if your nostrils tend to collapse. You can test this out by standing in front of a mirror and observing one of your nostrils whilst you breathe in deeply through it with the other one closed gently by pressing on the side with a finger. If the open nostril tends to collapse as you breathe in, try propping it open with the clean end of a match stick and see if breathing is easier. Try the test on both sides. If you find breathing is easier with your nostrils propped open, you should try one of the nasal dilators designed for the purpose. The new Nozovent are a vast improvement on the old design. They stay in place more firmly. Snorless is still popular as is the Snore no More spring. Breathe Right strips are especially comfortable and easy to use.

It Is Worth A Try

Sleeping position does contribute to some snoring in some individuals. It will not take long to put a few books under the top of the bed to elevate the bed head. If it works, terrific, if not... well it was worth a try. Some folks only snore when laying on their backs which they do most of the night because they are unable to sleep comfortably on their sides. In this case, an orthopaedic pillow such as the Pro- Pil-O may enable a comfortable night's sleep whilst on one's side. Laying on your back is the worst possible sleeping position because the tongue falls backwards into the throat and partially restricts the air flow, causing turbulence and snoring.
Alcohol is another factor which should not be overlooked. Sedatives too, like sleeping pills, depress the central nervous system and increase the state of relaxation of the muscles in the throat. They also depress respiratory drive. We don't snore when we are awake because the muscle tone in the upper airway has more tone than during sleep. Anything that reduces the muscle tone still further will have a detrimental effect. If you don't usually snore, you may snore after a few drinks. If you usually snore a little, you will snore a lot. If you always snore, you may stop breathing for periods during your sleep, a condition known as sleep apnoea. Most of us would be envious of those who snore only after a few drinks. They are lucky because they have a choice. Drink or Snore.

Age, The Unstoppable

Both men and women tend to snore more as they grow older, and there is nothing we can do about that! But, if you take snoring seriously now and solve the problem, you will probably prevent your snoring becoming sleep apnoea. It normally follows a long period, say five years, of regular heavy snoring.
In general women tend to start snoring during or after the menopause. Some women snore only when they are pregnant. It would tend to indicate that hormones play an important role in the etiology (cause of a disease) of snoring. Some women have reported that hormone replacement therapy resolved their snoring problem.

Sleep Study Before Surgery

For both sexes, gross anatomical defects can lead to snoring and it is worth having your nose and throat checked out by your doctor or an ENT specialist. Some may wish to operate straight away because there is always something that can be done to make breathing easier. We will echo the policy of the Directors of the sleep laboratories who unanimously advise that no surgery for snoring should proceed without a prior sleep study. It is important to know whether the problem is snoring or sleep apnoea because the treatments may be quiet different. The treatment of choice for obstructive sleep apnoea is Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) which may be rendered less effective after palatal surgery.

Keep In Touch

Our message is this. Try your hardest to work out what is causing the problem. Eliminate those factors that cannot apply and work hard on those which might be contributory. Through this quest you will gain useful knowledge that will be of major help to the consultant if you need to see one. With the help of a specialist clinician you will definitely be able to resolve the problem. Then you will probably be looking for a better way. Keep in touch with The British Snoring and Sleep Apnoea Association as we always keep our eyes open for new techniques.

Senate Summons Service Chiefs Over Election Postponement

The Nigerian Senate has summoned the nation’s service chiefs to explain the reasons security agencies were unavailable to provide security during the originally scheduled dates of elections.

The Senate made this decision at plenary after meting with the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Attahiru Jega, on Wednesday.
The Senate Minority Leader, George Akume, moved the motion that the service chiefs be invited for questioning after the INEC chairman said he could not answer some questions put to him.

The lawmaker representing Kwara central, Bukola Saraki, while speaking to reporters after the plenary, said it is necessary for the service chiefs to be summoned because there were only a handful of questions that Mr. Jega could answer.

Mr. Saraki said security issues relating to the elections could not be answered until the service chiefs are present.

“So we are still back to that issue of security,” Mr. Saraki said. “I think that further emphasizes what we were saying yesterday, that the Senate and the National Assembly still need to invite the service chiefs to give us assurance.

“He (Mr. Jega) said categorically that he cannot answer that question that we need to have the Service Chiefs to answer that question.

“If we keep on talking to Professor Jega, we cannot hold him responsible for that. What we can hold him responsible for, he has given a good explanation already.

“The most important thing is holding election on that day and the only person that can answer that as he said is that we should bring the service chiefs to answer that.
“So next week, we hope the leadership will do the right thing,”
Mr. Saraki said.

Senators of the All Progressives Congress briefed the press on the need to summon the service chiefs to answer the security questions instead of Mr. Jega.
The lawmaker representing Osun central senatorial district, Olusola Adeyeye, said the service chiefs should be summoned for compelling INEC to postpone the elections.

He mentioned that the army did not have a right to influence the date of elections.

The elections were postponed from February 14 and February 28 to March 28 and April 11 because the Service Chiefs told the INEC Chairman the military would be unavailable to provide security.

Prophet Okikijesu Reveals APC-PDP Chances On March 28

Paul Okikijesu, who is Lagos Prophet, has made some prophecies regarding the forthcoming elections and significant political figures in Nigeria.

The prophecies were published by Newswire.
Firstly, the prophet speaks about General Mohammadu Buhari:
He must resist the pressure from different groups/people regarding the upcoming presidential election. The physical body of this man needs supervision. Why can’t he accept that it is only the power of God that can heal him?

He must pray for the spiritual hand of God to preserve and protect his life. Furthermore, he must also pray to Me so that I can give him liberty and healing in his physical body, says the Lord of hosts.
“If it is Buhari that believes that I am alive and surrender his heart to Me, he will win the election. Nevertheless despite people’s mandate they will neither release power to him nor swear him in as the president of the nation.
“His situation will be similar to Abiola that had people’s mandate, but was not given the chance to rule the country.”

About forthcoming election through the states the prophet makes eight suggestions:
1. If APC is not careful and increase their efforts in Lagos State, PDP will win the State.
2. If APC is slack in Ogun State PDP and SDP may take over the State.
3. In Oyo State, if APC did not become energized, PDP, Labour Part and Accord Party will dominate the State.
4. PDP is still firmly in control of Ondo State.
5. If care is not taken Labour party and PDP will snatch the rein of control in Kano State.
6. If the people of Kwara are not ready, APC will take the State.
7. If River State did not put in their best, PDP will win the State.
8. Also Edo people must be prepared or else PDP will take over the State – if Edo people only speak without appropriate actions, PDP will win the election.
The prophet also added that APC will win many states in the gubernatorial election, but not the presidential seat at this time.
About President Jonathan he said:
If he believes fully that all power belongs to Me and nobody has power except God then he will win the presidential election, but within six months after the election he will be ambushed.
Jonathan will only rule for one year after his swearing-in-ceremony because people will poison him whereby he will be sick and die on the throne/seat. If they did not succeed, then there will be physical confrontation to terminate his life and these are the reasons why he has to surrender his life and heart totally to Me says the Lord.

If he refuses to take steps to implement My directives, the event that will happen will be beyond his comprehension. If the above incident happens due to Jonathan’s refusal, and an early presidential election is conducted before Jonathan’s second tenure expire due to his demise or incapability then APC can win the presidential seat.

Nigerians React To PDP Begging Obasanjo

The political tension created in the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) due to former president Olusegun Obasanjo’s dramatic exit from the party on Monday February 16, still lingers on.
President Jonathan and Obasanjo.
President Jonathan and Obasanjo.
The Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, who said he was in a closed door meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday, hinted that the party will go and beg the former president who wants to become just an ‘elder statesman’ to return and forgive whatever wrong doing the grand children may committed.
Following the disclosure by Lamido, some Nigerians, however, shared diverse opinion on the planned move by the party and also used the opportunity to condemn Jigawa state governor.
According to Dan Arewa, “We all thank God for bringing Jonathan into PDP, If not him who would have killed PDP so easily and quickly”?
Suleiman Adamu, who condemned the Jonathan-led administration for its alleged corruption said: “Mr. Lamido baba is against the mismanagement of PDP by Jonathan, instead of you to support, you are busy campaigning for his re-election. Your days are numbered come March.”
Chinedu Nsofor is of the opinion that Obasanjo is an accomplished man who has done a lot for Nigeria, but his recent criticism is a symptom of old age.
“Baba (Obasanjo) is an icon, an inventor and a creator of every institution in Nigeria!! His unrelenting criticism is a manifestation of old age!!! Lamido is speaking from both sides of his mouth. If Baba is suffering from dementia, old peoples’ sickness, why do you want him back since he has departed from being an icon, an inventor and a creator and is now having the old age sickness? The same sickness they say makes Buhari ineligible! What do you want to do with a wasted old man? Or is this another insult? Come out straight and tell us what you want Baba for,” he said.

Egi Hamadu, however, noted that the fact that the former president had gone to the extent of tearing off his party membership card in public indicates that he had definitely meditated over it for long.
Mohammed Ababakar said he thinks begging Obasanjo will show how loyal PDP are to him, adding that it is like more of pouring a burning coal on his head, while Precious Onuoha expressed believed that Lamido has spoken well hence, Obasanjo should settle his differences with his children and stop criticizing and creating room for frustrated opposition party to speak ill of Jonathan’s administration.
Meanwhile, some of the people that spoke also used the opportunity to take a swipe at Lamido and accused him of corruption.
Mohammed Suleiman alleged that Lamido is deceiving himself and pretending about the eminent change that is coming because his sons are under the scrutiny of EFCC.
Shariff, who also blasted the governor, accused him of lying, saying: “You are a liar; you cannot just wish Apc away and brand them as aggregate of pains, anger and frustration just because you want to please GEJ in order to cover your money laundry case hanging over neck and that of your family. You can call the oppositions any name you wish, the day of reckoning is around the corner.”

Dan hamidu mayor said: “Lamido, I think you are going brain dead. With all the darkness, lootings, and killings taking place daily to think of PDP returning to power in Nigeria. God forbid bad thing.”
Dr Lawal Usman Bagiwa said: “a voice of a hypocrite always speaks for them. I think Sule Lamido is still at utopian level. Let him continue to protect his children from EFCC until change sweeps them.”
Recall that the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) recently described former President Obasanjo as an embarrassment to the Nigerian military.

Okorocha's Giant Strides In Education

Popularly called ‘Owelle’, Governor Rochas Anayo Okorocha is one Nigerian governor that was very popular even before he assumed the office of the chief executive of Imo state.

Okorocha’s giant strides in the educational sector all over Nigeria are well-documented. Almost 10 years ago, he founded his non-governmental organisation (NGO) named “Rochas Foundation,” to give hope to less privileged children through quality education.
He has not looked back since then. Even as the number one citizen of Imo state, Okorocha has made the education sector his number one priority in the ‘eastern heartland’ as Imo state is fondly called.
Little wonder the state’s secondary school students always top the WAEC results’ charts every year. It is also no coincidence that Okorocha is the president/founderof the Nigeria Red Cross Society.
The pictures below are a testament to the governor’s commitment to education:

Buhari Showers Praise On Jonathan

As Nigerians wait to go to the polls for the 2015 elections come March 28 and April 11 respectively, the Presidential candidate of The All Progressives Congress (APC), General Muhammadu Buhari has commended his rival and the incumbent president, Goodluck Jonathan for the first time in a long while.
Speaking in Abuja during the visit of Mr. Kadre Ouedraogo, President of The Economic Community Of West African States (ECOWAS), General Buhari praised President Jonathan for assuring Nigerians that he will hand over power if he loses in the forthcoming presidential election slated for March 28.
Buhari further assured the delegation of a peaceful atmosphere before, during and after the elections and praised Jonathan for assuring to hand over to whoever emerged winner at the polls.

He said: “The six weeks extension is accommodated in the Constitution for holding elections and INEC has said it has recorded between 75-80 per cent successes in the distribution of the voter cards.
“Mr. President has made very encouraging comments weeks ago by saying he’ll hand over to whoever emerged winner.
“We told our supporters to embrace peace before the accord and even after the signing of the accord we have continued to urge them to show restraint.
“We intend to maintain this pressure until the elections take place”.

Meanwhile, recent reports indicate that, armed hoodlums yesterday, February 18, stormed the Enugu State campaign office of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd.).
The incident comes the next day after violence had been unleashed unleashed by the unknown at the APC rally in Okrika, Rivers State. A policeman was killed and 50 people were injured.
