Poll shift: Abia vows to arrest protesters

Abia State Governor, Theodore Orji
The Abia State Government says it has uncovered a plot by some politicians from outside the state to stage a mass protest against the postponement of the elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission in the commercial city of Aba.
In a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Theodore Orji, Mr. Charles Ajunwa, the state government warned those behind the plot to shelve the proposal or face the wrath of the law.
The statement read in part, “As much as the 1999 Constitution (as amended) allows for freedom of speech, association and movement, these unpatriotic politicians should not use Aba as base for perpetrating their evil intentions, thereby portraying Aba as where anything goes.
“These unpatriotic politicians, who don’t have the interest of the country at heart, have no right to demonstrate in Aba. They should go to their individual states to carry out such unpatriotic acts. “
The statement, therefore, warned residents of Aba “not to make themselves willing tools in the hands of these unpatriotic politicians who never meant well for this country.”
